Did The Axe Cut The Tree Or Was It The Woodsman

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Isaiah 10:15 KJV
15 Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.

Boasting is one of those things we all do at least somewhat if not always, and it something we probably understand how pompous and arrogant it can sound at times, even when it comes from someone other then oneself. You can not hear one's own arrogance unless you are alerted to it either by God or man. It matters not. See we are a generation of self advertising, or advertising of someone else, or visa versa. We are a generation that love to brag about our ability and our achievements. I watched two Presidents stand and give awards, or statement of freedom that been in our land for decades. From metals to awards our country seems to have a line of people waiting to receive the highest degree of metals and awards. Truth there is nothing wrong with it, but I get the impression of this achievement going on the wall or in a trunk as soon as it is given, with either pride or a quick memory to look back apon in old age to be able to say look what I achieved over others. One can quickly get the impression of the Me Me generation of how can we achieve that gold star and what can I do on my own merit. I sit and I wonder is this necessary. Then I pull out my Bible, and ask myself have we forgot our skills, our intellect, and our achievements first come from God, and second come from our ability to learn, to grow to achieve. And everything in that order but let us leave the achievement gained because someone pushed us into it. Or did we do it for someone else besides God.

I look at my latest project of a campertop and say I really did that. Kenny and me built that all by ourselves with only a little suggestion or knowledge from others who have built things. I stop and I wonder and remember the base of the project as I look at some pipe and saying this could build a frame for the project, never imaging i actually do it until I took on the task of saying lets see what it will look like, and then the project was underway. Was God involved. I like to think God gave me a brain to decide to create and form things as a crafter at least. However everything is bigger then man and as the origin of God. Will we as people look at our nation as having origin greater then ourselves when it comes to cures, inventions, abilities and achievements. Nothing wrong with metals and awards. Yet our failure can be leaving God out of the picture and vocabulary. The source of good achievements and metals in life. The source of goodness and not evil.

Where is the root of the tree in the process. Is it rooted in God and His word or rooted in the things and design of evil. We are all capable of producing good and bad, but do we know the source giver of good. Most know how about temption and how to act on it, but do we know how to be bearers of good things, producers of great things, and productive branches of God. God is able to graffed his people back into his tree, if they get cut out. Why did they get cut out, were they not growing in the vine. The answer is they went their own way for a time and what they produce may not of been of God. Yet man turns to God what happens God graffs us in to produce his fruit of righteousness and faith.

Faith even in language effects our mind, spirit and heart. We can fail to understand the significance of God being glorified and given credit. Can an ax say i cut down that tree. No it takes someone to swing the axe. Who cut, who chopped who is responsible for the change. Whether Jew or Gentile we understand faith can arise in all people, All people find God's grace amazing upon belief. We all find submission to God with his mercy and grace in our life, in His love for us when we fail to believe, and fail to acknowledge God's power in the world. When we see our failure, and weakness, we find God's grace.

One might think we living in a world of unbelief because of the lack of knowing God is real, but it more then that it is a lack of acknowledge the reality of God in daily living and daily supply. We look at the starving and say why is there no food, only to be ask why was no food given, God has supplied all over the world food for the hungry children and yet it held back by government, and foundations and such that are desiring their own feast, their own wants filled when they can buy it for themselves. I get mad at the poor as well, when i see someone with food stamps with enough to buy for seven months instead of just one. I get mad when I see them stand in the handout line instead of using their stamps for food. Now if a person only got ten food stamps and money they have goes and pays every bill and gas to get to work, they need food. If a person is in need with no income, then they need food. Why food is necessary for living and ability to produce productively in our lives. Yet not everyone can work, not everyone can do the task needed for survival. Food banks are filled this time of year and through out the year by generous donations of people that say I been there, I see your need, or I hope if I am ever in need, it will be there.

Now I understand that God supplies all our needs, but he wants to take people as axes and hammers. Hammers to build and axes to cut away the things not of him that seem to grow in society for the negative and not positive. Satan tempted Eve to get her in trouble with God. God tried to persuade Cain not to sin, and Cain still sinned and killed the righteous brother. Abel producing faith, Cain producing the sins of his father and mother through disobedience to God. Are you Cain or are you Abel. Just because you have not physically killed someone have you stopped or discouraged someone from faith in God?

When we look at a telescope, microscope and simple pair of glasses we see three objects to see by at different levels. Some very far aways with a telescope. While one can see things very close up and microscopic with a microscope. With a pair glasses we only hope to see what people with perfect vision see. If we remove these objects then no one sees a thing they are looking for. We can not remove God from the equation, without him we would not even exist. Our abilities come from God whether we realize or not. Our evil ways comes from either devil or the corruption inside man because of our imperfection called free will. With glasses we see clearly hope, with microscope we see things not seen with the nakes eye. Telescope we see more clearly things that might be seen with the naked eye or never seen but by God.

Society can become like a yoyo up and down in their relationship with God, but individually we can have the seed of faith that never changes in our hearts upon the first time we believe. But there times God cuts out the bad in all of us, so we can continue to produce good things. It starts with our ability to understand the power of God in our life and how he intercedes in our daily living giving us power to do good things in our own life by his hand and will. Our ax might be sharp, but without the hand of God it can not cut. Without a sharp brain and exercised brain one can not produce certain things with one's hand. Who made you? God did, And things you create can be good or bad, useful or unuseful. Things we do can be useful or pure evil at times. Consider the power within your hand and hands of others. A child hand is often directed by an adult working on a project, to teach how to hold a tool. God's hand is on each of our life, to teach us his power and his might, if we only recognize his hand. Sometimes God allows us to see microscopicly or telescopicly or just a pair of glasses so we get a better view of his power and might.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to see your hand in our life. To see the good things you produce in our life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 11:16-23 KJV
16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
