Learn Christ 11/21/2016
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisEphesians 4:14-32 KJV
(14) That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
(15) But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
(16) From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
(17) This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
(18) Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
(19) Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
(20) But ye have not so learned Christ;
(21) If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
(22) That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
(23) And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
(24) And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
(25) Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
(26) Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
(27) Neither give place to the devil.
(28) Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
(29) Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
(30) And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
(31) Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
(32) And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

I talk a lot about faith more then action it seems at times and then sometimes I talk about action more then faith. Faith and action can not and should not be separated. Yet many people choose belief in God and Christ but choose the world. We all need food, shelter, and clothing and things that make life easier. During the holiday season especially beginning with Thanksgiving we can not forget the local food pantries or church pantries that need stocking. Yet the first thing we need to do is learn Christ. Learn the things of God first. Our work is in vain if their no compassion toward others. If our very thought is sin instead doing the things of God.
Our very nature as a believer is to shed the old man. Snakes every fall shed their skin so that new skin can grow. Walking in the woods in fall can be dangerous at times. But it is not a place to remain out of. Believers need to shed not to grow new sin, but to become a new creation learning and doing the work of Christ. This thanksgiving if you are able to help someone else consider doing so. Not just think about it but do it. As I plan a dinner, I also think of all the festive deserts. After growing a pumpkin this year. Okay my husband grew one pumpkin this year. We got enough out of that one pumpkin to make the equivalent of four pies. Now two pies have been eaten. Mainly to see if I remember how to make pie. The next two pies will be for the thanksgiving meal planned. There is a point, if you learned Christ then you learn to share Christ, or to pass the gospel on. The gospel of love and action. A dinner without sharing pie is missing desert. We can teach who Jesus is and learn all He did, but unless it moves to action we are missing our desert.
It easy to get carried away by the holiday hubbub and forget those around you. Let us share the love of Christ this season. Let us put on the new man, the new coat of faith, love and hope. Let us turn away from those things that cause us to desire only more of what we have no need of. Let us put on Christ and share the love of Jesus. To share the hope of faith through prayer and action. Let us join with others this holiday season with like mindedness toward others to care about those in need. Let us testify of the goodness of God, whether we be rich, middle class or poor.
Let us remember we all are growing in the love of Christ and some it takes longer then others to put what they learn into action. I can watch a video how to make something all day, but until I take up the tools to make something, I have only learn about making something. Many people learn Christ but never ask Jesus into their heart, to pick up their cross of faith and carry it. Each us must pick up our cross and carry it for Jesus to be a follower of Jesus. Do not think you know it all, but think of yourself learning about Jesus and putting His word into action.
Dear Heavenly Father helps us to learn Christ to the point our actions speak of our learning. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Countdown To Thanksgiving 4 Days left: Thank God for teaching us faith, hope and love through Christ Jesus. Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 KJV
(17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
(18) And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
(19) To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
(20) Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
(21) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. |
