Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Luke 1:8-25 KJV
(8) And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course,
(9) According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
(10) And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
(11) And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
(12) And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
(13) But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
(14) And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
(15) For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
(16) And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
(17) And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
(18) And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
(19) And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
(20) And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
(21) And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
(22) And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.
(23) And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
(24) And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
(25) Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.

One might think of the story of Abraham that his journey started at the promise God spoke to Abraham about going to the promise land but in truth we do not know that for a fact, for his father Nahor was idolater. Noah journey did it begin with the commission from God to build an ark? No Noah was a man of faith and was then commissioned to build an ark. Paul in his journey was a Jew by faith called on the road of Damascus into believing in the Son of God. Timothy had faith from childhood, but his call came much later in his life as a young man. Zacharias was a priest and his call to have a son came through time of his ministering to the Lord in the Holies of Holies. A place only priest and those dedicated to the temple for cleaning could enter. It was Zacharias turn to enter. Stories are told that the priest would have a rope tied to his waist when entering and if he died while performing his duty, he would be pulled out by a rope. Zacharias a righteous man before God and man, went into the Holies of Holies. Yet Zacharias a man of faith was in for a shock when an angel appeared to him and spoke the word of the Lord to him. Had Zacharias only meditated never imaging a true visitation of an angel? Was Zacharias ever believing but never thought it possible that He would be granted such a prophesy to be fulfilled in his day?

Something to think about if God speaks to your heart is it from God one might ask? One might ask how can not know? The Word came by an angel to Zacharias in form of prophesy. The visit of angel was perhaps ever so believing in the possibility it might happen, but when it did he could not receive what he saw and heard. When Christ appears will we receive Him. The fact is Godís people will receive Jesus but, the reality is only come when they go to meet him in the air. What I mean is that on the day of Christ turn, we are ever hoping, but when the day comes, it is only the sound of that trumpet and the shouts of joy of Godís people and the lift off will people grasp the reality of salvation.

The reality of visions and a visitation from God or angel is something our minds can not perceive or fully receive, because of our humanity and our reality of daily life. Zacharias would see the fulfillment of his sonĎs birth and know the truth. His mouth that was muted by the word of God spoken by the angel came to be as he tried to tell the people of his vision. No words came forth from his mouth, but the people praying outside the temple knew Zacharias had a vision. Had God spoke or was Zacharias facial expression enough to allow the on lookers to know, it is truly envisioned in the telling of the story. However we know Godís word came to pass.

Godís word should be enough to be believed on its own without signs and wonders, but in truth in reality our humans minds need proof. Proof of the reality of it being of God, that God instructed the vision and the dream. What has God spoken to your heart lately, anything? Are you doing it, and are you following the plan God has for your life? Zacharias went home to his wife, not a prostitute and had she would conceive and have a baby. One can not be running around like a chicken with his head cut off when God has instructed you in the direction you should go. Zacharias course was homeward to impregnate his wife. As crazy and male chauvinistic as it sounds that way, it was not because he missed his wife it was because it was the word of God this time. If he been able to tell his wife she might of done what Sarah did. But no doubt with his inability to speak she sought o comfort him the only way she knew would work.

God plan always works, Godís word is always true, but it hard for us humanís to believe with our minds not fully grasping the reality of God and His word. People of faith even doubt, so do not be ashamed of a lack of faith, but be humbled if God choose to use you in anyway. Be ashamed of not submitting to Godís will for your life even if it does not come till you are old.

Dear Heavenly Father give me faith even when I doubt the reality of visions you place in my own heart for my own life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Countdown To Thanksgiving 6 Days left: Thank God for His Promises for they are true

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:Hebrews 6:13-20 KJV
(13) For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
(14) Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
(15) And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
(16) For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
(17) Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
(18) That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
(19) Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
(20) Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
