The Ways Of The Lord 05/16/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisProverbs 16:1-33 KJV
1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.
2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
7 When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8 Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
9 A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
This being Sunday the Lord's day of rest, a believer goes either to church or finds time for individual worship of God, either way is fine, but don't forsake the assembly of the believers. Something believers even struggle with is giving God glorification for everything. We make a sandwich, did God make it, or only give man the mind to make the sandwich and the hands to do it with. We have this desire for our own glorification of saying we did this or that. It is our human pride and it comes with a fall. Some Christian groups like the Amish probably have this more master then others, because they look at their crops and saying that God's blessing or God took it away. It hard for many of us to talk in this language because to exalt oneself one might just get the raise if the information you speak is true, and some get it even if what they speak is a lie, but eventually the lie catches up with them. If we went into a public work place in the regular business sector and said God enabled me to do this or that, how much of a raise do you think you will get or a promotion for the task. Does our glorification of God work in the world, and I will say it depends on who you are speaking too. Our own pride and our pride joined with others pride will cause a fall. The tower of Babel is probably the easy pride issue to see, man trying to reach God by their own merit and building the huge tower together to do it. The pride being how high do we have to build to reach heaven. The people continue to clammor around this large structure only for God to come and confuse the language of the people for their pride of what they were trying to accomplish as a team. God not against team work, but against things that are about how we can accomplish something to make a door to him, not by his direction but man's devices. Simply it glorifies man and not God and is not apart of God's plan of salvation coming from him.
I built a camper top for my truck, and I got to say pride swell the day some friends help lift it on the back of the truck, so much so I wonder if I could finish it. I still got work to do and winter came and so we now must finish. Anyway, there is point, how did I do it with no instruction. Was it God showing me a way and a design with some pieces of material we used that was scraps of metal. I like to think so, but I like to think it was more then my ability and my husband ability to create. The reason being is despite I say I did it, I know God hand was in it even with all the human anger and frustration that was in the project. I think of Noah building the ark, what skills did he possess that God chose him to built such a massive Ark. How much knowledge did he have to build it, after all it took a hundred years to build it. As the project of the camper top was being planned and built we had to stop think, regroup on issues we came across. Yet both hubby and I had different skills that made the project actually come together with some other people's advice along the way, that knew something we did not.
There is a point I am making, sometimes we go about doing things we never done on our own, sometimes projects bigger then ourselves without human instructions. We see and perceive but the reality God gave us the mind to create things. We are created in his image after all. If created in his image where does the glory belong to God not ourselves. Yet our human instinct of bragging rights of accomplishment. It is those things we learn by how God created us humans to do more then we think in our minds as being possible. It okay to dream big things for ourselves, but lets realize sometimes those impossible dreams must come to a screeching hault until we realize God's role in our life to help us achieve those goals in our life time. God see our desires and he wants us to have them, but he wants to be the one to be recognized for aiding us along our pathway in life to accomplish those things we do.
10 A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
11 A just weight and balance are the LORD'S: all the weights of the bag are his work.
12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
15 In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
Do you think of God as a tyrant ruler demanding things from you? That if you wrongs or wickedness is such you face the judgment. Let us back up for a moment to Romans 1, where God turns man over to sin, judgment comes with the turning over but not the forbidding of the sin. Parents often forbid their children. God forbids but if we choose to do it he turns us over to that sin. He allows us to seep down into the muck and mud of life instead walking across bridges and highways fit for his bride or his children. We chose the pathway of muck and mud its God giving each person choice. Cain was marked because of his choice to sin for protection without repentance so man would not kill him. God would put him death one day. God being his judge and not man. He knew is time would come but he be protected til then.
God loves his children to speak those things about him and to worship him. Yet he loves better when we get to the place of understand his authority as King. Yet his authority as king is like our government in regards, to executive branch is God the Father, the congress is the law giver/word/Savior of the government which is Christ, and then the judge the Holy Spirit who judges with fire which would be the judicial branch of our government. Now for a believer we see these branches as one unit under the title government, but there three parts. If God was a tyrant, he would not have three parts only one part acting as three parts. However God allows his Word and Spirit to have reign and power too. Authority of his word that he does not break and is binding to our hearts and soul, just like his Spirit seals and protects us, it also judges us by God's word. The weight and balance of God is seen in Christ and his Spirit.
Our faith makes God lord of our life in non tyrant God, but for the wicked God probably does seem like a tyrant when it comes to their wickedness that must be destroyed, but the action of wickedness weighed by belief, sealing and made for destruction even in the believers life. Cain was saved for the day of destruction because of his unrepented sin.
16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.
21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
We come back to idea in verse 25 that there ways that seem right to a man, but it still leads to death. Wisdom being gold and understanding silver, and highway to the righteous is to depart from evil and man preserveth his soul(verse 17)? Man only perserves his soul not by his actions, but by his faith. The choice being God. Solomon request for wisdom gave him God's word of protection on his life, yet it would not be to the next generation. When one talks about the Jewish protection from God because he marked Israel that could not be removed, we see Solomon protection because of bloodline, but not by his actions or his faith, for he would commit adultery/idolatry with his faith. Yet the promise of God was also marked by Solomons actions and how he used his wisdom, and Solomon sinned against God and did not use his wisdom God granted correctly. He did not honor God with his wisdom beyond giving him credit for the knowledge of wisdom. Man can have all the wisdom of God and still sin, even with understanding, because he makes choices that do not please God, and never repented. Solomon had to repent not only every year at the temple, but whenever he transgressed against the Lord, by the Mosaic laws. He had to still make atonement through sacrifice for sin with lamb, goat or bull. That is the part no longer necessary for the believers in Christ, for Christ paid our sin debt and their is no more remission for sin, but we continual sanctified by the correction of the Holy Spirit. 26 He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
27 An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
28 A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
29 A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
30 He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.
We all work at sometimes in our life to provide for our needs, but our salvation we can not work for, it something God gives freely to all that believe in Christ redeeming power. All kinds of sin we entice our friends, and neighbors to do. Not understanding that our actions of sin is causing others to stumble, but even ourselves to stumble in the wisdom God has granted each of us. Things of this world that lead to destruction will be destroyed even of the believer, our tongues, our lips, and the things we devise that are not of God.
It is better to labor for the things that will remain and continue then for those things that will be taken from us. We buy something new and it is beautifully made only to know one day it season of usefulness will pass. Yet faith, and the works of faith, meaning the love, joy, the hope will not fade from us that believe. Let us give glory for the great things he makes, and created for us to have and for us to pass on to others that will last.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your gift of your Son who we share with the world, with love and truth of your word. May your Spirit fill each believers heart and renew them daily with your hope and truth of your word. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: 1 Corinthians 3:9-23 KJV
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;
22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;
23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.
