The Doubters

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Judges 6:33-40 KJV
33 Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.
34 But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.
35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
36 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,
37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
38 And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.
39 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.
40 And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.

Gideon was neither a brave man, a rich man or a man without doubts. His characteristics maybe more human then most that stood up militarily for God. To understand Israel under the authority of a pagan ruler who worshipped a baal(god) that required human sacrifice, human suffering, human beatings, human cutting of the flesh. God was going to deliver his people from a group of people that did not value life. I look around our own world today, is God going to deliver his people from pagans of our world, from the idolatry of our land that is against the values of life and liberty for all people. The God given right of man, until man cause harm to another. How many abortions take place in my own state even after birth, how many killings of children and old occur in many states, and many country around the world. Most of us never think beyond our own beliefs unless we join a prolife movement or group of people.

There is a point Gideon was a doubt of his call of God on his life. Imagine being visited by not only angel but hearing the voice of God. Most of us are not willing to step out the door after Corona virus hit, nor were we willing to hear the call to find ways to protect each other. I seen the other day either or line or on the news, where people have big plastic sheeting just to hug their grandkids, and just to visit people in nursing homes. It looks like a person in placed in a glass bubble room. No doubt it is working and helping with emotional issues of elderly and old. But it also doing something else, it saying the world cares about them. The animal custume of one was adorable just to see love ones. No doubt they wonder if they would see them once more. God is good and first stage of battle is in place with weapons of protection against something unseeable.

Gideon on the other hand needed more then a plastic barrier in his life for his doubts to fade. He needed more then a fire on a stone that the meal sacrificed was consumed by. Gideon needed more then being called Jerubbaal because he told Baal to plead against him cause he threw down his altars. What was Gideon thinking he had begun a war against the enemy because he destroy the altars of Baal.

What is war with the devil is it only with words, or is it with weapons of warfare today. Most wars today are population wars, and wars having to do with money. Has nothing to do with human rights but in truth it should. The world fights for things they think they want and not things they need. The biggest war of our day is a toilet paper production. Most would agree truckers have been on the move across our state, but not clearly able to deliver the largest toilet paper demand. Why is there a demand, will it like this, you at work 8 hours a day or longer and you are not at home, so you do not even realize how much is used daily. The retired person knows and so does those that stay at home to raise children.

Gideon was at a place he need more proof that we were at war within his own borders that he had to fight then just the toilet paper, cleaning products and germ warfare movement. He needed an impossibility shown. He needed proof that he himself could see and it be between him and God that he was to lead this battle as God had called him too. He took a fleece, a woolen cloth and said if this fleece be wet in the morning that he set on the floor, and let the ground be dry. And it was. Then Gideon said let the fleece be dry and ground wet in the morning and it was. See the dew is a natural occurence and the fleece would of been wet with dew normally if left outside and if the ground was dry the fleece would of normally been dry too.

Gideon was asking God for proof of his call to lead a military force in a battle God began with instructions of tearing down the altar of Baal. What more then do we need to understand about doubt is God not afraid to give us evidence to his call on our life. He gave it to Moses, He gave it to doubting Thomas one of the twelve disciples who had to see the nail scared hands to believe he arose from the grave. It is normal to have doubts when it comes to one's call by God's Spirit. God's Spirit speaks but we need evidence, because many of us look and ask the one question are you sure Lord you want me to do this. Are we really hearing the voice of God. Yet when God provides the evidence you know it is his will.

Are we doubters of faith, or will we believe without evidence. Many believe in Christ without the evidence of a resurrection, because they know that God has changed them upon receiving Christ has Lord. I know that if you feel nothing, you will, and if you obey God he is going to do a work in your life, because he cares for his people who follow his will. We must be careful and ask how is the battle going to be won. Is it with words. I have no weapons of mass destruction, I know I have the power of God working in my life even when I am weak, God provides when I need it. What am I saying God wants to change our life and remove our doubts and move in victory over the enemy.

God wants people of action not people of fear, and God takes away all doubts if we will just believe. Sometimes we scoff at our own proof, because of fear and more doubts. Step out in faith today and do what God has called you to do. Allow God to fill your mouth with His words to fight against the enemy. Today our battle of wars of destruction are only fought by military or are suppose too. In truth street gangs, and other groups still fight some with guns and weapons of destruction not understanding there is a better way.

Dear Heavenly Father, as we look at Gideon call to the military let us remember to trust and obey you, and to allow you to put away our doubt to our call. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: John 20:24-31 KJV
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
