Need Of Repentance
05/17/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 8:5-13 KJV
(5) And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
(6) And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
(7) And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
(8) The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
(9) For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
(10) When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
(11) And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
(12) But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
(13) And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

The casting out of Israel is it only metaphor to the need of repentance for Israel. The reality of Israel being chosen by God to be a nation unto service to Him. The rest of world going to Israel for sole information about God. Yet who had the right to be Israelite, were not those just born into the nation, but also, those outside the nation that chose the ways of God and God. Is Israelites as equality cast out of Israel by unrepentance, the answer is yes. A nation chosen to serve God but is a nation that fell with sin, to only be cast out and the gentile to reign for a time. Did not mean the gentiles knew God only that God allowed the allegory to take place to be a living testimony to the world of the consequences of sin.

Not one nation was incapable having receiving God’s redemption but it had to come from faith in God. God is Spirit and God is love. Yet God is seen as a person casting out nations before him, because He is a holy God. Holiness is requirement from God to have relationship Him. No the requirement is God calls one out of sin, yet man still transgress the law of sin. The healing came through the sacrifice of the ram, and the sacrifice of Jesus who took away not only the sin for the world, but he need for sacrifice. God requirement begins with faith. Faith in God and faith in His Son. Is what saves a soul from hell. Israel has a group would be cast out but people would have faith. Yet those with faith that were cast out because of the nation were they condemned, or did God show mercy when they followed and obeyed. Jeremiah found comfort in exile. I can not imagine the enemy not happy about Jeremiah prophecies. Yet they understood not the source of the prophecy.

A Centurion a Roman military leader comes to Jesus needing healing for his servant. The discourse of that Jesus had much to do and he understood, but all Jesus had to do was speak and it would happen, demonstrated faith of this military leader. Jesus told the man to go his faith had healed him, but before he told him to go he implied the time of judgment on Israel was coming. A time of exile of nation from Israel, because of sin, and because they rejected the messenger of God. If Israel for a time was a peace after Christ death then what happened. There were Jewish community all over the known world that would reject Christ and some would believe. The casting in metaphoric was not only allegory, but not without hope. If God is going to cause every man, woman and child to confess Jesus as Lord To the glory of His Father, Is there time of potential repentance at the coming of Christ? Or is all lost and cast out into outer darkness where there gnashing of the teeth. God knows the answer for the believer we meet Jesus in the sky and have no fear. It the one’s below that are standing in the final judgment facing eternity. Some to be cast out for eternity.

The time of Gentiles was reality to come. It was time when the gentiles would believe. If one thinks about it, God sent his Son for final sacrifice, because of the sacrifices gentiles made of their children to idols. Jesus became the substitution sacrifice for no longer would heathen sacrifice to false gods, but in areas that never heard of Israel God or those that refused to believe. Christ being the only one given for this sacrifice and to draw all men to God the Father.

Jesus speech to the centurion was speaking of the hope of Gentiles to know the God of Israel in a way and value to them. Jesus not only bridges the gap between you and His Father but also to the nation of Israel of faith. God’s plan not man’s. There is a difference. The time of repentance is now not time to come. Jesus tells the Centurion go your servant is healed. A gentile soldier coming to Jesus before His time to come. No his time was now, because of his faith in God of Israel. He knew Jesus could healed, he was witness to the gentile nation that God healing and mercy was for all.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to understand your healing is for all and not just for one nation. Your purpose to redeem the children of all nations not just a few. May your Gospel spread forth. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
