Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Kings 17:9-15 KJV
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

If some ministered for forty years do they deserve the same pay as the one only ministering for 2 years? Most of us would wonder what type a ministering the person is doing to only receive more or less based on their salary. Yet others receive millions of dollars every year when only the minister on the back mountain road barely makes ends meet. Is one life more important then another. The question is not whether someone is more important it is whether God provision is enough to satisfy the heart and livelihood of the individual. Is it enough to know you will enter heaven like everyone else.

Today lesson is take from two chapters one in I Kings 17 and the other in Matthew 20. These two chapters actually do not seem to belong together until you get down to wages and worth. We see a widow woman and Elijah having a conversation over who is worthy to eat cake and have glass of water. The woman only had one meal left and Elijah wanted to take it from her. How often government, and sometimes religious people want the poor's last morsel of food. During war times armies comes and takes all that they can either consume, or take what is not theirs based on their need and want. Elijah not at war but at peace and he just been feed by a raven for some many days before God sent him to the widow woman. The woman is clear she did not know if she made this cake if there would be another meal or not for her son. Elijah is clear that if she was going to die she really did not need that cake. Yet in reality what he told her go and make me a small cake first and then for you and your son, because the Lord was going to deliver, the meal shall not waste and neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the Lord sends rain. They did eat many days. The woman choose to obey the prophet of the Lord. No doubt in her spirit she knew God was involved in this request. It does not say it, but if you ever experience the power or authority of God you know it is possible. What I am saying God sent Elijah to talk to her. With that preordained commission on Elijah life, there was also a commision from God for obedience on that woman's life. In other words that woman would be impacted by what God was going to do for her, her son, family and friends in that village.

When we see the stimuleous package to help those working some others not understanding why they do not receive too, might consider this, if you work and loosing pay, do you not need this income break, do those that receive help normally need the extra help, that is a question law makers really ask. Do those whose incomes do not change need the extra help. It is called monthly salary. No those business need that help to keep their employees income going, those that receive a weekly or bi weekly pay based on hours that are loosing pay will need the help immediately. Taxpayers that already receive help based on retirement or disability, where do they fall, truth I am not sure, but they receiving money already. Those on welfare that do not work, did your status change. That the next question, and the answer are you earning or on unemployment, or receiving because you fall into the cracks of the system to receive help from other sources. The question then is then did you earn that check at anytime in your life. The answer be up to that government depending on how you fall into the system of working, non working, never worked and have worked. This where the chapter in Matthew falls into this lesson.

God hires workers, some began early in life and others later in life but all get the same reward, they will enter New Jerusalem and some will have been there longer, but they get the same pay/inheritance from the Lord. Elijah commission to find this woman was on faith, the woman believed the prophet and did according to her faith in God as well. Each believer receiving the same reward but guess what not all began their race in life toward heaven at the same time. During Coronavirus outbreak no one is guaranteed tomorrow, yet many are able to fight on their own while others are dying in hospital. Some say girl how you know how I feel, because I have faced the fight for life with disease, not knowing if I live or died, I was at death door literally in my life. My blood count so low, I would have died, if I had not had more then one transfusion. Sick not knowing what was wrong with me. Finally got a bone marrow biospy and diagnoised with myelofibrosis, and had no trouble after by blood level was restored. It was a fight for life. Did I know if I have tomorrow or not. In truth none of us know if we will have tomorrow or the next hour, but our reward is the same if we will only believe in Jesus and repent. Asking God to forgive us and receiving his Spirit to enable us as a believer to do his will. We are not God when we receive Christ in our hearts. He comes in to teach our soul how to live. The reward is the same, for those that will pass on, if they know Jesus. Receive Christ today and repent of your sins. There is eternal hope through Jesus, God's salvation plan from his judgment on sin.

God might send a person to you to share the Gospel of Jesus, and God might be speaking to you through this site, but however God moves in your life be willing to listen like the widow woman and you will find the blessings of God, in his provision for you and your family whether on this side of glory or in glory. God is good. Be prepared to meet the Lord when you stand before him either on earth or in heaven. Be ready to bow at his presence. Come humbly to the throne of grace. Grace is given if belief in Jesus and repentance happens on this side of glory. The reward is the same, no more torment of this earth, no more hardship, no more sickness, and no more sin.

Dear Heavenly Father, grant those reading the knowledge that your word of hope is true. That you desire to deliver on this side of eternity for each believer in your Son that repents, for the devil believes and trembles but does not repent. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Matthew 20:1-16 KJV
1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,
12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
