Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Then came in all the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.
Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:
There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?
I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.
And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:
And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old. King Belshazzar is the son of King Nebuchadnezzar who ruled over Babylon. King Belshazzar was a witness of the hand of God in his father's life and things done to his father, before he turned to the God of heaven and worshipped him, but his kingdom was still a kingdom of many gods. I want to clarify a thought I presented yesterday of separation of worship of God in respect and separation of true worship. Devil even terribles before God, and yet the devil does not submit to God, The king recognized teh God of heaven before his death and his kingdom went to his son, but was it a complete surrender, maybe on a personal level but not on kingdom level. As long has those under the king chose other gods, his kingdom was not godly. It shows more so in the generation that came after or maybe even grandson name King Belshazzar a witness of King Nebuchadnezzar journey to know about this God of heaven that would also come and visit him as well in his power and glory during a party with the handwritting on the wall.
When I think of the generation coming behind me, it is quite a scary thought. Some have become Christians and others have not. I sit back and realize that choice each generation makes, and some not wise decisions concerning faith in God. Each generation, each tribe of people, each individual has to decide who they trust, serve and obey. Obedience to God is simple. Love Him first and learn to love others has you would yourself. What is loving yourself but not causing yourself harm or others.
King Belshazzar was faced with a problem he used the temple cups during his party, only to have God write on the wall of the room. Daniel was sent for, because no one else could tell him the meaning on the wall. Daniel said he would read what was written on the wall for free, yet the king still blessed him wth gifts. Did Daniel understand the importance of what he was reading I suspect so, for he knew that Nebuchadnezzar kingdom was over, despite his son sat on the throne. He knew the Persia and Medes time had come, but did he know they were right there in the room with him. Daniel would be put in authority that very night only to loose it perhaps. What we do know the king would be killed in his sleep that night and King of Darius of the Medes would take over. What was written on the wall was warning to the king first to repentance, but repentance did not come. God told him his kingdom was finished and he had numbered it. What other kingdom has God number. If we look to Revelations the kingdom of God is number and the tribe of the gentiles is numbered with a number unknown to man. Speaking of the believers kingdom. the words on the wall also said his life was weigh and found in want. In other words his action testified against him of sort of king he was and the kingdom he was power over. And the Medes and Persia would take it that very night. Upharsin and Pezes in both transliteration(perhaps when copied the word changed but the meaning never did, perhaps a more popular wording). Yet what we know is the words in Hebrew that were written Meme, Meme, Tekel, and Upharsin came to pass.
God's word remain in power despite that the Medes and Persia came into power. God's word would come despite the enemy would rise up once again against God's people. This kingdom that took over was the second kingdom out of four kingdoms that would arise. We live in a day of time where many kingdoms recognize the God of the Bible along with many other gods. Some would perfer I mention this not I suspect, but it time to state the truth. For I perfer to serve the God that ruleth in a kingdom not built by human hands then the kingdom built with human strength and brawn. Yet if we find ourselves in such a kingdom, we are to serve her as we would our fellowman. Why because God did not call his people to not love or serve others. These are place to share the reality of God and his wrath, that the world already sees when they cry in the night to God.
Can we receive what God has given each and everyone of us. I laid on my bed one night praying for God to take away the pain or for him to take me home with him. He spoke to my heart the healing is yours, and yet my question is Lord when is it mine, when will you heal me. I could not receive because I needed evidence before the healing. God gave me what I asked for a sign but he showed me something in the process that godly men and women are in many places that devils walk. God demonstrates his power in the mist of the enemy and they believe not. I understood not, going through it. God's power wants to reign and has the power to do so with or without our permission. Might as well be a part of God's winning team.
We have to ask ourselves if we believe God and His Son why not receive all God wants to give his children. Perhaps there is that part of us that doubt not because of lack of faith, but lack of being able to grab hold to the things of God because of all the worldly things around us. Belshazzar no doubt seen the value of money and the power of money and consider it a greater access, so ignored the God of the Jews, which cost him his life. Can we grab hold, and turn from sin of doubt, and misgivings of the power of God. God says he "shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory", you can trust he will do so. Devils rise and devils fall. God's people maybe in times of hardship, but they are not in want. God's promise to supply. If Belshazzar could of turn to God based on what he seen, he would of found God's mercy. God's wrath is often a statement, but not one without mercy. Nineveh was preached to and repented, despite judment forcasted, only in the next generation for God to carry out his wrath.
Did Belshazzar have need of the Temple of God table settings and glasses? No but he took them and then used them for his party. He stole from God for his own glory. No repentance with the warning and that night he died upon his bed in his sleep. He enjoy no more of his wealth only judgment of God. This judgment came by text message on the wall of the palace not the wall of cyberland. It is the worlds first text message that came from God.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your mercy and grace and for your warnings in life, when we fail to be in compliance to your will. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
