The Last Week Before The Crucifixion:Visitors To See Jesus
3/31/2015

Daily Devotions:by Christina Farris

John 12:20-33 KJV
(20) And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
(21) The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
(22) Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
(23) And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
(24) Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
(25) He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
(26) If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
(27) Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
(28) Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
(29) The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
(30) Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
(31) Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
(32) And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
(33) This he said, signifying what death he should die.

The verse before the passage I am using did not go with my thoughts this AM but it explained that the Greeks where among the Pharisees. This would explains what they were doing at the passover feast. My conclusion is they were probably Pharisees. These Greeks wanted to see Jesus. I often think how people come to see friends and family from hours away. Yet if they missed their destination then those on the other end missed a visit. I can remember knowing friends were in the area if they had time or if it was not later then planned they would come. Mom and dad waiting for the arrival that may or may not come. Yet knowing supper would be late either way, so better have a snack. The point is cell phones were not available in my early years of growing up or even later and the Greeks had no clue what a phone was. All the Greeks could do was to hope to see Jesus. Never knowing if they would actually get to meet the man they had been hearing about. Image the excitement on finally getting to meet Jesus. Finally getting to hear with their ears what Jesus would say to them too. Anticipation of a meeting is only half the excitement, the other part came when God spoke to the crowd of listeners. Some claiming it sounds like a trumpet from heaven and others said it was an angel speaking to Him. Either way the fact God spoke did not stir the crowd up. It had to be religious leaders. They are the only ones that would of stayed calm in such an event. Yet there was discussion on what was heard. Jesus said the voice came to glorify His name. His voice came to declare who He was and is.

Yet it discourse center around the fact that he was to be lifted up. Though they did not understand he would be lifted high up on a cross. If the judgment of this world should come, will the devil be cast out? Jesus said that He must be lifted up to draw all men to Him. Symbolizing the type of death he was to face and the fact it was time for Him to go be crucified. The poisonous vipers bit the people in the days of Moses in the wilderness. Theses vipers that bite killed a person, but the simple fact is they recognized God healing power and asked Moses for help talking to God. God spoke and said to make a bronze snake and lift it up on a pole and anyone looking at it would be healed. Jesus is our bronze snake that if we look to him, He will heal us from our sins and our diseases. When does He heal from sin immediately and when does he heal from diseases always in His timing for His glory and honor. God provided the symbols of hope and the figures for hope. We can not make graven images of our own accord, they must be God’s design and Jesus symbolized His Word and how His word often sacrificed and rises among men. Sin forgiven upon faith in God and Christ. One must believe God will forgive to receive forgiveness. The process is clear.

God wanted to strengthen the belief of who Christ is and His authority. No devil magician tools needed, only God declaring who Christ is to the believers heart. Whether audible voice or a still small voice by His Spirit. Greeks already had faith, yet they were given the knowledge of Jesus death and resurrection was coming. They were told the time was now. In a few more days Jesus would go to the cross and rise again after physically completely dying. His energy spend and his blood poured out for you and me.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the declaring who you are to the believers. Continue to speak to us that believe, so our faith will be strengthen. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
