Flaming Fire Before And Behind
06/25/2021

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Joel 2:1-3 KJV
1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.

What does it mean to have God before and after an individual. Having God ahead of man, only to also follow him in protection, as a warning not to go back. Is Adam and Eve my favorite people perhaps, I seem to mention them alot, but they were where original sin began, and where the ability to grab a hold of the tree of life was remove from their grasp. It would be something that would be given upon faith, and not by one's ability to take hold of and obtain eternal life.(Genesis 3:22).

Blow the trumpet, sound the siren of warning that the great and tremble day of the Lord is coming. There are those that still blow the ram's horn. There those that sound a trumpet instrument as a reminder of the horn that will be sounded by the angel to signal the wrath of God. Do you ever wonder what are we waiting for but the sound of first the trumpet to tell us of Christ return, and then the trumpet that warn of the destruction in Revelations 8 and 9.

Yet when we think of the sound of the trumpet of telling us Christ is coming, that enough to give us a shout. This imaginerary of scripture no doubt is symbolic to the exile to Babylon and from Babylon, but it is also a symbol of the time we march into the city of the New Jerusalem. Leaving devastation behind. As a believer you have nothing to fear but the hope of new life in the New Jerusalem. For the unbeliever it is only disaster. Joel talked about the time being like in the garden of Eden, of leaving the garden with swords behind and God before Adam and Eve. Yet do we picture the exile of Adam and Eve with God in the fore front. Probably not, because maybe the imaginery is more of them being sent outside the garden in shame and devastation of the heart, not fully grasping what they truly lost until once outside the garden. They can not turn around because two angels/cherubims wave a flaming sword in front of the gate. The ability to reach and touch any of God's blessings and healing power removed from the human touch. Yet when Christ return we will be healed by the pool of water. We be healed at the fountain of life. We be healed by the touch of our Savior, from all our diseases. Not one disease will remain in us. No more sin, no more cause for sin will reign within us. Our desire to serve him will be complete as we enter the eternal city of the New Jerusalem. All those things we could of known because of Adam's and Eve sin is now abolished from us and our healing from fruit trees in the new kingdom begins. Yet all along God was behind Adam and Eve in leaving the garden pushing them forward through the gate, and now ahead of them leading them homeward through the many generation to time of Christ, til now. Christ paying the price for our sin, but giving us eternal hope of this earth either in the rapture of the church or when we pass away as believers of faith.

Dear Heavenly Father the reminder of you not abandoned man even when sent forth from the garden in sin but being always ahead and behind us, so we do not return to sin, but move forward in faith and eternal hope of salvation through Christ Jesus your Son and word. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Genesis 3:22-24 KJV
22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
