Marriage Is A Holy Commitment

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Mark 10:1-12 KJV
1 And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.
2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

The subject of divorce is it against God or against one's spouse. If you been married for even six months and the thought of divorce has never enter your mind, then you probably are destine for the long haul of the relationship by at least intent, but if divorce has enter your mind, it does not mean the marriage is over it, it means there is area of your marriage that needs work or improve upon or it is an issue that divorce will be forth coming. Many couples choose today to live together until the relationship gets rough, or gets in trouble with kids, finances, health or cheating behind ones back. Cheating is probably number one reason for separation, with sex and a person not working being second and third and not always in that order. What keeps a marriage together. After 31 years I will say love and commitment keeps people together, but even that might not be full proof. No marriage is perfect and it takes work to maintain it. Yet it is those times of relaxation in a marriage is life as a couple enjoyed. If it was never a good time, a marriage can not last. There has to be something that holds a marriage together to through thick and thin or a marriage will not last. If I was talking to a young person today I would tell them to follow your heart, but make sure your heart will still allow you to enjoy other things it will desire and be encouraged to do so by ones partner. To be able to be yourself is important in a relationship, money is only monetary, and so is material possession. Also plan to have children do you want this man or woman you marry to be the parent of your children and your extend family in your life and the life of your children. May sound simple, but it is not. Yet one thing I do know myself is your heart knows if the person is right for you.

Now Jesus never gave any words of wisdom of relationships outside the relationship with God the Father, except in regards to love others as yourself. Perhaps why is woman were given in marriage by contract, by choice, and by slavery in Biblical day. And sometimes only solution was to learn to love people in general and be kind and good. Yet he did give advice on marriage and divorcement. He spoke that marriage was a union between one man and one wife and divorce given in case of adultery to put a woman away was done by Moses. Not only that if the man remarried he was committing adultery. Let go a step further having more then one spouse is adultery too, Yet the Bible goes through an era where having more then one wife was normal part of living.

The monuments standing errect, and some have thought removal of all monuments are the solution that had any ties to slavery. Yet no ask what was culture, culture dictates often what we buy, sell and own. The first model T was built and people bought the first car, but most of us would not drive a model T today because it not in vogue ot own one unless you enjoy collecting cars or like that model of vehicle to ride around in. The point slavery was dying in the south with education of people of color, and even poor whites caught in bondage. True no man ever asked to be enslaved, but it was culture not of today, or is it of today. Today do we not enslave people into volunteer work. Some will say they enjoy it, but are never paid. Some companies require it as part of the job. Yet no one calls it enslavement but volunteering to do something no one else has time to do regularly that needs doing. Now with this said George Washington founding Father of our nation, Lincoln freer of slavery but owned slaves. Did society change when the reality of human rights were in violation change, yes, but it took time to educate and change people ways of thinking. Yet sex slavery, prostitution rings, sweat shops and so forth still exist in today's society. Has slavery changed no only the way it is done. One was open and other now behind closed doors to hide their money and their trade. These things are things we need to fight against, not tearing down statutes that represent more then just culture but freedom they were working toward for all people. Women and men forced in bondage of another kind, never imaging this is happening in today's world. Yet man is more concern with a rock structure then the abuse of men and women in today's world.

Is marriage, divorce and living together part of culture and something between man and woman, something originally designed by God to be a holy union that people today often do not keep it holy, or keep committed for one reason or another, because of the me first generation of filling one's own desire and not willing to go the extra mile to help take care of the needs of the person they married main need is love and respect. If Jesus looked at our culture today what would he say about marriage, that God design was one man and one woman, but society has changed the rules. God never did. God knows that we live in an imperfect world not in paradise in the garden of Eden, so He turns people over to their desires and Jesus cries Father forgive them for they know not what they do. God's way always being perfect, our way always lacking in design.

Dear Heavenly Father may you word bring forth fruit of love in marriage of your design and call on each man and woman's life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 1:17-32 KJV
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
