Dwell In The House Of The Lord Forever
6/17/2020

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Psalm 23:1-6 KJV
1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

As David wrote the Psalms 23 had he commit sin with Bathesheba by coveting another man's wife, probably not. When we think of the Holy Spirit and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the praises that pour forth might come at a time before correction of God. This relationship built on the love and mercy of God in David's life. He wrote as he he walked by the water and knew God was with him. He may of written even before becoming king, and it was etched on his heart strings of God mercy tending sheep. For as the Psalms starts "the Lord is my Shepherd; I shalt not want", and no doubt David trusted in God, but not only God but knew he did not want, he had no desire that was not fulfilled by the relationship he had with God until the old devil tempted him.

Then as the passage goes we see it might of been written later for it talks about not only green pastures of youth, but the valley of the shadow of death, and eating in the presence of his enemies. That would surely have come to pass in the King Saul's Palace as he ate a meal with the king's family and country men. Then God anointes his head as king, almost a reflection of where God had chosen him, as he sat with the king. This anointing came before he killed Goliathe. As he reflects on this anointing he knew the danger before Saul would even try to kill him. He been chosen and yet he was right now only a servant to the king, something perhaps not even thought possible in the fields of his father as a boy.

David knew his true desire to dwell in the house of the Lord forever, to be in the meditate state of worship with God on a one on one relationship as well as corporate worship. Today churches are struggling with new guidelines, Churches if i could say anything right now make sure you clean those pews with disinfectant before polishing those wood surfaces. Yes it hard on the wood surface, but right now disinfectant is a must, those polishers might be cleaners but are they disinfectants? God's word is a disinfectant, his word is the fact he desire us to meet together in worship, but at the same time are we keeping his house clean after every meeting? Remember Churches are across the country having more then one service on Sunday morning. That extra work for the Pastor, but no worse then a college Professor lecturing all day, God provision for the Pastor is great.

Now David did not have the issues of today's world wrong again, for there were laws about cleaning even the temple. Yet the dwelling place of forever with God is in the sheltering arms of God even after death(a place some called in Christ day Abraham Bosom) but this dwelling place of God being more then human body being indwell by God's Spirit. Resting in the Spirit of God for eternity was David's desire, for he knew what was to be indwelled by God's Spirit continually, for he was chosen by God. It did not stop him from sinning, but it did mean God's correction was in his life and he desire God's correction, for he was a repenting man. Earthly church is nothing compared to the eternal house of the Lord that last forever which is in heaven and will come down and be the New Jerusalem, when Christ returns, we will dwell in the house/Spirit of the Lord forever, no longer constrained by human flesh for we dwell in Spirit of the Lord. Our hope and trust is in Jesus and in his words for He said He goes and prepare's a place for you. This place is for those that put their hope and trust in Jesus. Our spirit will dwell in God for eternity if we will only believe and receive Christ as Lord and Savior.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to desire the place of spiritual rest, the dwelling in your house, in Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: John 14:1-4 KJV
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
