Under God's Shadow

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Lamentations 4:1-22 KJV
1 How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.
2 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
3 Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
4 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.
5 They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.
6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.
7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:
8 Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.
9 They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.
10 The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
11 The LORD hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.
12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.
13 For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,
14 They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.
15 They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there.
16 The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.
17 As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
18 They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.
19 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.
20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.
21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.
22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

If nothing the last four months have taught us all is life can change in a moment and our world as we knew it can change just because of one error in time by one person, one country and entire universe. No one acting quick enough nor loud enough to alert the world. How could anyone imagine it effect so many people, not even where it all began was exempt from destruction and potential death. Shutting down the world seem the only common sense thing to do in the time of a pandemic, but is it the smartest way to handle it. That is for research to decide if there is or when there is a next time what can we do better with the technology, and other source available to our world. The answer is still there is no easy solution. There is a point that I want to make, Man's destruction can be allowed by God to show his authority. Jerusalem was fell, during the days of Jeremiah the Prophet. The view of Jerusalem Temple as people were force to leave into exile was one of fire first, and the melt gold on the city streets from the temple mount.

We hear of streets of gold and think of heaven but to see this image it catches my eye for a moment what did Israel long for but the sanctuary of their city of gold, a place of pure heaven when in its beauty, yet within the gold from palace to sanctuary lade hiden the sins of iniquity upon the city, to the people people were so thin they could see their bones protruding and their babies crying for milk for their mother's milk dry up with the famine in the land. As people look back long for a city they longed for gold, not for the real gold of faith and hope in a God of everlasting hope and forgiveness. The nazarite woman all pure a virgin city in full innocents at one time, so became a harlot to its people. In fact Jeremiah says the Israel sin is worse then Sodom. How can anyone sin be worse the Sodom and Gomorrah when you consider God destroy city in one day with a fervent heat.

Jerusalem was carried off, but not with the knowledge of God's shadow would live among the heathen. That God would put a protective coat on those that were called his people, the same people that were protected before Jerusalem was destroyed. Can you live among the heathen as believers, can you long suffer with the heathens of the world. Is God's protection enough for you to stay in the shadow of God Almighty. Knowing into the desert land you go and find not always meat or the fruit of the new land, but a protective guard over you life. God does not promise us Jerusalem of shining gold, but a new Jerusalem with His Spirit in control and His power, where His Spirit reign and with building he built for you and I as believers in Christ/word. Right here Christ had not come yet in the flesh, but it is by God's word they believed God would protect them. His word being their salvation, also a longing for the Messiah, not understanding fully what is to come.

We on the side of longing for streets of pure gold who is the potter but the creator is God and molder of this fine city designed and built by Him. Not one of our making but one of his pure design for his people. Not one built with human desire but the heart of God for his people. If we only see the destruction in this chapter, we can not see the hope of God with his shadow over us, nor can we see the comparison of Adam and Eve going from God's garden to roam the earth into imperfect world design by God for His people to learn about the things of God and His handiwork. Israel faced the heathens that would sell them, turn them into servants and in seventy years let them go free out of bondage of exile. As a believer we are hear until our time is up and God calls us home, we are in exile in a land of the unbelievers, with believers in our mist as God shadow covers us in this land. May you find peace with the knowledge of God's shadow covers us in this land.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your divine protection as you over shadow us in a land of unbelievers and believers. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Revelation 21:21 KJV
21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

Psalm 91:1-16 KJV
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
