Non Jews Received The Holy Spirit

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Acts 10:30-48 KJV
30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

The I am the only one going through something or experienced something is not always so. Social media of who has experienced something you posted is out of this world as far as demonstrating we all are in the same boat or go through similiar things in life. They idea that we are the only ones is now even more short lived because people are more free to share then ever before. It not that things are never talked about the variety of people, people know has changed and sharing of thoughts with more types of people then one might have normally shared. One does not have to come from a similiar background to experience the same type of things in life. One only has to be human to experience similiar things as another, even around the world.

Jews felt much like they own God perhaps. Maybe not owned but had possession of experiences with God that all their own. Yes the individual experience with God is unique but not necessarily any different then another, beyond the fact God speaks about individual issues to the heart of man. It might not be the same issue as another at the same time. God is no respector of persons. Meaning He not defined by Jews and Gentiles as the Bible defines them. God is a God of all, though not all worship or honor Him. Cornelius was a gentile of devout faith in God(Jehovah). He was praying when a man appeared to him and told him to send for Peter in Joppa. Cornelius did so. Peter story in this passage is interesting but not necessary for today's lesson. So I will skip it for now. God is not a respector of person when they choose to worship Him. We can not ignore the fact there are many believers in the world. There are many converts in faith to Christianity. There also many that hate Christians today as well as embrace the Christian faith. The Christian faith spans the globe and in places twenty years ago it was not even allowed. What is happening is God is shining the light of Christ to all mankind. The story of Cornelius is the first account of a gentile after Christ resurrection being awaken to faith in Jesus.

Peter came and taught about how Christ had died for the sins of the world. How Christ had died for Cornelius and his family. How it matter not he was a Gentile. Cornelius and his family would be the first Gentiles to receive the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues and see the miracles performed that followed the believer. The Holy Spirit was poured out before even water baptism in Christ could be done. The Holy Spirit came upon them. Something to note upon being taught belief occurred. Today scripture is taught and people still believe and the Holy Spirit still is pour out on the believer. Cornelius was a righteous man before God the need for repentance was already before Christ came. This passage shows several things the operation of God upon belief as well as the teaching for belief. That fact upon belief one received forgiveness of sin. That upon believing Christ died and was resurrected was the essential for salvation.

One can not assume someone can not receive Christ or the miracles and the gift of speaking in tongues because they are not of faith or knowledge of Christ. We can assume that everyone can have the opportunity to receive Christ but not all will. We can assume that the Gospel is to be carried to the world not just to individual tribe or region of the world. We can assume that God has the ability to speak to those that listen even today but we need to be in prayer to witness and to share the Gospel as God calls us too. God needs spokes people for him, but He all he needs us to do is obey him for He calls us to share. The man that appeared to Cornelius was either Christ or angel. Either way he could of told the Gospel to him. No he has him send for a man that would testify of Him. We need that human contact of other believers in order to know it not just us experiencing the power of God. That we are not mental, but the power of God is in action before us. It is for our fellowship that God speaks to the believers by the Holy Spirit. God spoke through the Gentiles by His Spirit giving the power to testify in tongues of other languages to the people around them. A gift is given, talent or learn skill is not a gift necessarily, it this case it was instant experience given by God to the Gentile people and Jewish Christians were a witness to this fact. They seen for themselves they were not the only one to receive Christ and the Holy Spirit. The Jewish faith was for all people that believed, but there was a time frame of entrance into certain parts of the temple as well as when a family unit could enter the sanctuary. There was no instant fellowship like with faith in Christ. A man had to be purified in the Jewish faith and learn the customs and laws of faith. In Jewish faith it did not mean you could not communicate with other believers, but that you could not upset the traditions God had set up at the time of Moses concerning worship and public worship of God. In Christian faith fellowship with the body of Christ is instant along with allowed to worship with fellow believers in the church.

To break the chains of thinking that Jews Christians were the only privilege character to receive the Holy Spirit was to demonstrate that the Holy Spirit was for the gentiles too. God would have to do it. He would have to speak to the Jewish Christians by His Spirit and show them the power of God was for all people. To have the Holy Spirit come upon you is not something to fear, but to embrace what God is going to speak to you about as will as to those around you. To experience God is to invite Him in to teach, to share and speak to the heart. It not just about salvation, but relationship that God wants to have with you and I. It like one big party in a since of wanting to pass the word along so all can experience His grace and frienship.

Dear Heavenly Father help the unbeliever today to know your power and might. Teach them that you God that does not care about your race or nationility but love them and desires to know them personally. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
