24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Jesus taught to do what he said. To be obedient to the word. Yet most the time, what we truly hear is be obedient and the word word is some how left off. Why is we hear the word obey/obedience and not the word of Christ. The concept to follow Jesus goes only as far as what one truly hears. If we hear nothing else but to obey and follow without knowing what we are to obey concerning Jesus instruction we become like the foolish man that built his house on the sand. He built a house, but not where God and Christ told him to build. It be as if Noah was told to build an ark and he decided he only needed a boat the size of a two man canoe. How long do you think that canoe would last before it was destroyed by the flood. If you know a hurricane is coming and you build your house on the sand with no other foundation, never consider destruction could come by not following hurricane building instruction by the state and county in which you were to build. It foolish to build on sand without following solid guidelines and then it still maybe foolish, if it to close to the shoreline. Hurricane will come and wash the house away. That is why one does not build in a flood plain, but sometimes business build not only in the flood plain but what they build cause others to have flooding. One might consider being around people that are willing to hear the word of God and obey the word of God.
A house built on a solid rock of Jesus has nothing to fear. Our faith becomes alive and is built on the word of God. We not only hear the word but we like a house on a solid foundation, it is not going anywhere unless earthquake happens. There always an exception to the rule of humanity but not the rule of God. And so anything built upon Jesus as being the chief corner stone, begins with solid beginning. The struction is built on the fact we must first believe to be saved and then we work on the word obedience to Christ who is the Word of God. God begins to remove the parts that filter into our life after getting saved that is not of him. He looks at our life and begins to help us stay on the road of obedience and success with Him. However as long as we begin the foundation of our faith in Jesus, our faith is solid. It will hold in the storms of life even if we angry with God, even if we struggle to hold to the foundation of faith, it will stand the worse storm of the century. If you ask God in the storm for help he prove the necessary faith, hope and peace you need.
Why is Jesus so clear that we need to follow and obey if we do not want destruction to come? It has to do with God's plan for our life. How can God give us an assignment and have us do it his way if the first thing and walk away from temptation, and follow his instructions. A drunk knows he needs not to drink heavy, but can he stop on his own, and the answer is perhaps. It is easier to get drunk then to stop drinking. What happens when the alcoholic turns his life over to Christ, he then begins to learn to lay aside those things in his life that keeps him or her in the life of sin. You need soberity to follow Christ. You need soberity because alcohol destorts one's view of the world and the ability to walk straight and not be clumsy. To know the difference from driving straight on the highway and driving in a weaving pattern. When you turn away from the party life, you get into less trouble and less error making because of intoxication or abuse of drugs. In the story of the prodigal son he shows where the party life style can land a person in a pig sty, feeding pigs and eating their food.
How far away from the word of God do you want to go? The answer is not even a step, but our life is not like that. There are times we disobey and we fall over a cliff and Christ the good Shepherd comes looking for us. He reach over the hillside and help us back up. Sometimes we are like Peter when the waves rushing all around look away from Jesus, only to cry Lord save me. Peter stood on the water as Christ did walking upon it, but he sank the minute he looked away. The word of God is that important to all mankind, yet many laugh and cry out we have other ways of correcting what we call evil. What those people call evil is just as bad as their good. They idea of love is what can I get from a person and not what can i truly do to demonstrate Christ love or give in the name of Christ. It is like the story of "The Giving Tree" with a new ending. The only thing left was a stump of a tree. The tree been used for a manger, a boat, a place for kids to climb and swing from their branches, for a cross and now a place for old man to sit. When the old stump gets termites it either is dug up or set on fire to destroy it. The point is the people use the tree but never care about it, beyond how they can use it, and when it is weakest point instead of taking a piece of root to help it live, they seek to destroy the whole stump. Of course this is adding to the story of "The Giving tree", but in truth that what the world does. They use Jesus/the Word and say we love, say we help, but their heart is not in it, their action show by their attitudes and behind the scenes. It is the destruction of man the gossip, the idle chatter of supposely caring and care not that is concerning. Jesus give us the love and so we are able to give that same love, but sometimes we fail in our humanity. We do not fail when our hearts are right with God and Christ's love is able to comes through our actions and obedience to God the Father.
If build on the solid rock and the wind some, we might shake, we might quiver, we might lose a shingle but we still be built on the solid rock. If build on the sand and storm comes we not built on anything solid, so we not only going to shake and quiver but we going to be destroyed.
Dear Heavenly Father help us to learn the Word of God and be obedient in our actions. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
