Daily Devotions:

1 Kings 13:1-34 KJV
1 And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Bethel: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.
2 And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee.
3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.
4 And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
5 The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
6 And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.
7 And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.
8 And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:
9 For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.
10 So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.
11 Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
12 And their father said unto them, What way went he? For his sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah.
13 And he said unto his sons, Saddle me the ass. So they saddled him the ass: and he rode thereon,
14 And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am.
15 Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.
16 And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place:
17 For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.
18 He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.
19 So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.
20 And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:
21 And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,
22 But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.
23 And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back.
24 And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase.
25 And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase: and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.
26 And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
27 And he spake to his sons, saying, Saddle me the ass. And they saddled him.
28 And he went and found his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the carcase: the lion had not eaten the carcase, nor torn the ass.
29 And the prophet took up the carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him.
30 And he laid his carcase in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!
31 And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulchre wherein the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones:
32 For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.
33 After this thing Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high places: whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.
34 And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.

The consquences are often betrayed in life by obedience and disobedience. How does individual look at God's judgment upon others, might be a greater mystery, for some pity and other wonder if they could prevent the one doing evil to stop for even a short time period. One can not stop the judgment of God coming unless one is willing to repent, then judgment still comes, but it is not judgment for eternity. The man of God spoke against Jeroboam and prophecied of the anointed King to come name Josiah. The king was angry and put his hand toward the altar and the altar split in half and the ashes poured out, just as spoken also by the man of God out of Judah. However when Jeroboam hand was put forth he found his hand had dried up. Now Jeroboam ask the man can you restore my hand? The man of God prayed and the King's hand was restored. The king wants to give Jeroboam a reward but he refused it saying the Lord told him not to eat, drink not even a piece of bread, and so the man of God left and went towards home. The prophet of Bethel came after the man of God and told him, he would take him to his house and he could eat there. However the man of God refused until the prophet declared he was a prophet and God said go fetch the man of God and bring him to your house and feed him. The man of God must of been mighty hungry because he return with the prophet of Bethel to eat. Only to have God speak through the prophet that the man of God had sinned by eating at this table and the man would be laid to rest in the prophet's ancestral grave.

Now the story that catches the attention as soon as the man journeys down the on his donkey, a lion kills him and stands upon him with the donkey standing there as well. People coming and going passed the scene wondered why the lion did not kill the donkey. The prophet went out and seen this very sight of the lion sitting over top of the body of the man of God and the donkey standing there. The prophet took the body of the man of God and laid him in his own grave and told his children to bury him there when it was his time to buried.

The king continued in his evil ways despite the prophesy and the death of the man of God, hiring the poor to consecrate him as king. I been writting since 2005/2006ish. I have seen four terms of presidents in office since writing. I can not imagine what the man of God felt approaching in person the king concerning his sin on the altar or the sacrifice of a man. Yet all came to pass with the lion of Judah watching. No fear struck the king at the passing of a godly man that sinned because of a prophets lie. The one life lesson we must learn as a child of God is obedience. Yet even in our disobedience God shows the world a life lesson of truth. The man that prophesied to the King was no perfect either only man like Jeroboam subject to sin. The judgment was for the purpose of demonstrating even God's people are subject to consequences. The man thought he had safety because he spoke with a prophet, yet, he forgot one thing, the humanity of religious leaders is the same as everyone elses. The fall coming with looking to man and not God. Josiah coming takes place a few more chapters over, and we be continuing witht he story.

Jesus came as a man with human fralities and yet he was God. He came announcing his kingdom on a donkey into the city of Jerusalem only to die outside the city of Jerusalem on Mt Calvary and buried in a borrowed tomb, only to raise back to life. When Josiah becomes king he restore the land to worship of God. Jesus death and resurrection has caught the world on fire for centuries and for centuries that fire will continue unless he returns. The reason why because he over came death and destruction of the grave as promised. God demonstrated his power to forgive the world. Yet he declares his judgment is for all those in disobedience which is true. Even Jesus faced death to rise again for breaking the law of man and not the law of God. Everyone that rises back up will face death once more. However Elijah road a chariot to heaven without facing death, Enoch was translated to heaven(Genesis 5) and yet we look and ask ourselves if we must face death will we go as God declares and not how man declares. If we struggle with God's plan of death and dying then we must ask one more question are we going to struggle with the return of Christ in his glory as those raised up to meet him in the sky, because the bride as made herself ready. The world is watching the bride of Christ and saying look at your sin and you failed. Your not better then me. It not about who is better or who is worse, it about obedience to believe in his Son who died on the cross for yours and my sins. It that simple. Yet can we receive it. Can we receive what God requires of us. The man of God disobedience came because he believed someone else. Do we believe God and his word? If you snooze you will loose just like the man of God, for his nap and rest allowed for the devil of a prophet to catch up with him.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come as I am believing your word that all must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to your glory and honor. Help our unbelief and let us not be the man of disobedience to God. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 10:8-11 KJV
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
