The Imperfect Portfolio

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 11:1-19 KJV
1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

John having the perfection of perfect leader. He set the example, no I doubt he had faults, but they were not clear if any in the since of his public walk. Jesus however lived his life to the fullest, talking to sinner, associating with sinners and yet miracles that came forth from Jesus seem to contradict who Jesus was and is. Jesus would in the passage give John reassurance of his Lordship, he told John disciples to tell of the work of the ministry he was doing as far as healing as being evidence of who he claimed to be and who God claimed him to be. Yet after he sent them away he expounds on the issue of who he is based on view of the son an coming eating and drinking , gluttonous and a winebibber and a friend to sinner and tax collectors. From the religious view Jesus was living in a dirty sinful life style. The strictness of the religious law had become a task master instead of a friend to leading people to God. People understood that certain behaviors made a person a sinner by association. By religious law the priesthood had to avoid all things unclean. A king associated with many types of people. A king had to be more diplomatic. Looking for a king and a shepherd you get a person that is diplomatic also healing people not worthy of healing, not worthy of being able to see or stand with Jesus, yet the reason for the association with sinner was only to make them whole once more. John may of looked like the perfect minister in regards to reach out to the gentile world, but Jesus was going into the sinful world to save the sinner not the righteous. Not the ones that judged him based on healing on sabbath, turn water into wine, or healing the blind and lepers. He was healing those tainted with sin. People were being restore to faith in God.

Jesus also taught about the antichrist being able to do miracles. When we look back to the time of pharaoh in Egypt and see the plagues of Egypt only first few could be repeated by magicians, then God brought forth his power of his wrath of his ability outshining magicians. What can God do that no other can do. To be healed by God by cancer can be done by a doctor. Healing of certain physical things can be done by doctors. Yet there are illness even known today not be healed by doctors. Those are the diseases that one has to look at as far as taking act of God to perform a miracle. Does all miracles fit the ability of man or God. We need to be careful about miracles and things, not everything that is claimed to be miracle of God is a miracle of God. President Trump words of peace according to news pictures are only signs of war in Iraq. Been the time of Obama Presidency there had been peace with their leaders. Now we standing in a situations that looks like war and Trump saying peace. Desire of peace and need to take action. Christ came to bring peace but it would cause wars in families, because of the strict nature of religious law of the Jewish people. It cause war with the religious leaders. There seem no end that meant peace, until Christ said on the cross forgive them for they no not what they do. Jesus prophecided in last days rumor of wars. Is there peace and safety or war.

The world can be a confusing place and I think in truth in Matthew 11 that what Jesus is pointing out. He showing how devils can not see truth of a situation and only see the lies. They believe lies because of traditions, and based on what they can see but not what they hear. The other day talking to a friend I sounded more like devil then a believer. Then I remember I am not God but I am human with human fralaties from past and probably future. If I live in present my life is not going to be perfect around me, nor am I going to be perfect. Yet what God is going to do is transform me into that vessel before others so they can see Jesus in me, through my grace, hope and joy in him and love for others. When I look and see this, I know God power to redeem is greater and to buid me up into a person pleasing in his sight, but cleansing me first and then teaching me what sin in my life is. Pharisees only judged Jesus by appearance and tradition, just like the people did. They did not see the message of God coming forth through parables, or the healings, because they could not hear or see because when they looked all they could see was sin. All they could do was accuse him of being in the presents of sinners.

If you hangout with bad people you hear and witness perhaps things you ought not too. Yet that not what you hear happening with Jesus, you hear people being healed, people being delivered. Yet Christ says the antichrist will come healing too. How does anyone know what to believe. If we believe what Christ declared about himself, we have to look at other scripture and ask what did God declare about Jesus to mankind. The baptism of Jesus, God declared him his Son. There are many portfoliios, but only one Savior. There any portfolios that look like Christ but are not. Christ did not sin when he ate with sinners. He did not sin when water was turned into wine, he did not get drunk. Yet what his true portfolio was a man of love, compassion for the lost and hope for those in need of a Savior. The declaration portfolio of any minister based on the prophet Isaiah.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to remember the stories of your declaration of your Son, to know there is no other Savior but Jesus. All others are the antichrist. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Matthew 24:23-24 KJV 23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Isaiah 61:1 KJV The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
