Jesus did not promise that the world would be perfect, but that He would have God send someone to console us, to minister to our heart, mind and human spirit. Jesus was leaving soon his disciples. The Spirit of God was with them and in them. Jesus would come to them even after his death. He was speaking both of the resurrection and His words that would continue in the heart of the disciple long after he ascended to the Father.
It is not hard to believe in God, but it harder to grasp the Holy Spirit and his intercession in our life. It hard to understand how He fills and wraps us in his embrace at times of sorrow, pain, and even fear. To explain it one can not beyond scripture. To know God is with us every moment when we receive Christ has Savior and Lord. The ability to receive truth comes with the first accepting the truth that God exist and He sent His Son to die for our sins. Christ intercession to the Father, saying Father forgive them , they know not what they do. The Holy Spirit coming like a mighty rushing wind to fill our hearts and mark us as God’s child. The boldness to spread the Gospel coming upon receiving Christ. Yet the power of the Holy Spirit coming upon the believer. The disciple of Jesus day that spread the message of the works of Jesus through out Christ ministry had the boldness of the Holy Spirit. The day of Pentecost was like a rebirth or fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit. An anointing that symbolized the work to be done in forming of the new church and spread the gospel. The Spirit coming to start a revolution of that effect the hearts and minds of the people unsaved, to convict them of their sin and turn there hearts toward God and His salvation plan. Disciples could not lead a soul to Christ without the assistance of God’s Spirit and the conviction of God’s Spirit. God ministry with the absence of God is not God’s ministry. The absence of God’s word and the absence of God’s Spirit is not God’s ministry.
God sends a comforter of the Holy Spirit to both Jew and Gentile. There is no difference between the people of the world. All can receive salvation and the gift of the Holy Spirit in their life. Salvation coming with faith, and the Holy Spirit comes with knowing who He is. God directs our lives by His Spirit. Comforting us we begin new journeys in life, as well as speaking to our hearts of the direction we should go. Disciples were following Jesus because of God’s Spirit, but they understood the absence of Christ would make in their life. Yet after three years of walking and talking with Jesus they needed him. The sorrow felt upon Christ death would leave the disciple in grief. Yet Christ appearance to them gave them hope of a future. Jesus taught forty days after his death to prove he was alive. Then Christ ascends into heaven, and a few days later God sends the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. The Spirit to give them boldness to take the Gospel into the world. The Comfort of God Spirit to bring comfort in the days of persecution, trials and tribulation of the disciples, as well as time of peace.
God is our comfort the Holy Spirit was not new to the believer at the time of Christ. The Spirit of God had turned away from Israel during the exile, but not to the believer. God has always comforted his people. Faith come with hearing the word of God. Faith is main core of having his Spirit indwell our hearts. Yet God does nto possess us, but instructs to do great things for Him. God was David’s comfort and shield. That comfort that David talks about is the Holy Spirit. However the coming of the Holy Spirit had to coming with a mighty force of wind to get the attention of the believers that God was with us. See the flames of fire and the wind announced the anointing of the Spirit for a task God had for them to do. As God and Moses gave the elders more leadership in Israel, the Spirit of God came upon the Elders and they prophesied. God spoke to his people His will.
Dear Heavenly Father you are the God of all comfort, please give a fresh anointing of your Spirit upon the believer giving the believer the comfort in the days of ahead for your glory. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
