Time Of Christ: Rise Again
1/21/2017

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Luke 7:12-16 KJV
(12) Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
(13) And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
(14) And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
(15) And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
(16) And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

The concept of living again after we die is not hard to understand. In fact as a believer in Christ that concept is taught through out New Testament Scripture with the resurrection of Christ and demonstrated in the Old Testament through old time prophet Elisha. The idea of rising from the dead is not foreign in our world. People are brought back to life on the emergency room cot everyday by doctor, and yet there no proof that one will be brought back to live a full life once more. The point is simple. The point is simple the idea of people rising from the dead once their breath stops for a only a few minutes or been on ice for an extended period of time, is not impossible. Yet to be dead for so many hours, or days before burial only proves the power of the resurrection. Jesus was buried very soon after his death to rise three days later. Without the pierce side of Christ and the water being poured out no one would believe he was totally dead.

The young man in this passage that died and was the only son of this mother in this village, that was being buried. Jesus stopped a funeral possession, touched the young man and told him to rise. If you and I did this, we would have to have a lot of faith in God. Though there be stories of old that speak of dead rising, we have to ask is it God’s will, or God’s will for the one sick or maimed, to go and be with their Lord. A believer has the sweet assurance of faith in God that they will rise again. The unbeliever has no clue what will happen to him or her.

The truth of the matter is the town knew when the man rose again that a prophet was among them. Did they know Jesus was? They understood something wonderful just happened. They understand a prophet was among them. The rumors spread. Jesus did not go around spreading his that He was the Messiah, the idea of Jesus as a prophet was understood with the miracles and that God had come to visit his people. The Holy Spirit being God had worked a miracle through the prophet Jesus.

It is throughout scripture that Jesus was a great prophet. The fact He was more then just human was not clearly understood by all. John the Baptist was filled by the Holy Spirit from birth. Jesus’ Spirit was God, He had no human spirit. John the Baptist was filled, something we all have the power to have through faith. Yet not one of us can control what God will do through us, beyond the human refusal of choice. God can use our refusal for his glory. Let us first understand that the power of God was seen in this village, though they knew not fully who Jesus was.

The power of God is understood by the believer. Yet these believers had proof through a miracle of resurrection. Sometimes we need a miracle, and some we just need old fashion sermon. God has a way of healing mankind and enabling them to have faith in Him. Those who never heard of Jesus death and resurrection are they without hope? God can be understood to exist because of his creation. It only takes a little faith to gain whole lot of faith. God has the ability to teach you about Him, despite man’s failings. God has the ability to send you a messenger to tell you about His Son. The Ethiopian Eunuch is a good example of it.

Dear Heavenly Father give us the faith to say you have visited us. Though the resurrection be passed let us look for Christ return knowing those who gone before us is living with Jesus right now. Give those without faith the ability to believe and those with little faith and confusion the ability to know the truth. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 KJV
(16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
(17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
(18) Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
