Time Of Christ: Built On Christ

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 16:13-20 KJV
(13) When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
(14) And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
(15) He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
(16) And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
(17) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
(18) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
(19) And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
(20) Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

Today lesson is who or what are you built upon? If I build I tower with blocks sooner or later they will come tumbling down. Every building has expiration date. No matter what man builds it will be destroyed. The seven wonders of the world have been restored many times and some of those wonders will never be restored. Yet the knowledge of them and their lasting ability of time dates the archaeology and architect design value of these seven wonders. Great Wall of China was not built in a day or the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Nothing structurally sound was built in a day. Moses was given the laws over a 40 day period to build the foundation laws of the Old Testament and they were written down by God ten basic laws. I would of like to been on Mount Sinai to know exactly during those forty days what God said to Moses concerning the laws. The duration of the time spent on the mountain cause the people to error with the first law, before it was even given. The instructions for the Tabernacle was lengthy and yet not built in one day, nor would the temple be in one day. Yet the church of Christ was built in one day. Yet it would take the destruction of everything the Jewish people understood to be destroyed for the church to be built. God did not take away the temple right away. Instead he gave earthquake and the dead rose and walked among the city streets of Jerusalem. A sight I can not imagine, nor the reaction of the people those who witness the crucifixion and those who did not, yet now the Holy people of old were walking there streets perhaps telling a story or singing a song, no one knows it was not recorded. Yet some of us wonder at the event. It was enough that on the third day when Christ arose that the grief stricken disciples did not doubt but had to go see for themselves. Had to check it out. What was it like to see all risen but not Christ at this point. The testimony of Jews and Jesus would go to Galilee and sent his disciples to Galilee to minister. The testimony of events left in Jerusalem and now the story told to the Gentiles of the resurrection. The proof was the nail scared hands. With the piercing of ears and noses today one ask how hard would these things be to duplicate in the side and hands. Without ruining hand or wrist structure near impossible. Yet with this thought in mind, the temple would be rebuilt on Jesus. On the resurrection of Christ. Built where first in Jerusalem then in the Galilee. Forty days in Galilee with his disciples. Not in Jerusalem in the temple where the religious leaders were. No doubt the religious leaders were examming the books of both Old Testament and some others. Yet the High Priest would believe. The structural church forming in Jerusalem, with the spiritual church forming among the Jews and Gentiles in Galilee.

The laws were established at the time of Gideon to the gentile nation. Yet segregation began. It began again with the Gospel of Christ going to the Gentiles and Jews. Some might ask how do you know Gentiles at the time of Christ were taught. Simeon of Cyrene helped carried the cross and yet he followed Jesus and preached after the resurrection. He helped in building some the churches. The faith of church would be established on faith in Christ and in God. Holy Spirit not yet given except to the disciples in John 20. Yet boldness to preach would not come until after the Holy Spirit came upon them after the ascension of Christ into heaven.

Jesus said he would build His church on belief in Him. His church would be established by the solid rock. Peter would begin preaching In Jerusalem so many days after the resurrection and the ascension, after the Holy Spirit came upon him. Peter was told to feed the sheep, both lambs, and sheep in fact the whole herd of people. Not all would believe or receive yet many had witnessed the events that took place in Jerusalem. Jerusalem is where Peter would first preach after the Spirit came upon him and other disciples. Yet the church was built on belief in Christ. The fact he died and rose again. He came preaching repentance and turning away from sin.

The church built on what happened with Jesus. Yet faith is more then just about Jesus it is the whole testimony of the church both Old and New Testament. For within the Old we find testimony of Jesus to come. The hope of salvation and yet salvation was always with faith Is it contradiction, no it is stretching of spiritual truth to believe or to have faith Christ died and rose again means no more sacrifice for sin. Without the Jews to shout crucify and to see it done, would not allow the sacrifice for the whole world to be given. The sacrifice itself performed by the heathens. For the soldier after the earthquake said this must have been the Son of God at the cross. Jesus came for the lost, not the righteous. The righteous were there in Jerusalem. Even the priest believed. Yet Jesus would teach in Galilee and Peter then In Jerusalem. Who was the tongues spoke too, but to the nations of the world. Giving the nations of the world hope from Jerusalem to many different languages that were understood.

The building of the church of Jesus begin in Christ home town, no it began with his death and his resurrection outside of Jerusalem. For sin offering had to be given outside of Jerusalem, His burial outside the city. Passover was going on. The Sabbath day alone would not allowed burial beyond Golgotha. Jesus was buried like sin was buried outside the city gates of Jerusalem the Holy City. Yet it is a nation that have many visitors of both Jews and Gentiles. The church being established outside and based on Jesus. Was this excluding the Jews by no means for God calls all His people to repentance to faith in Christ Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father the building and establishing of your church begins with faith in the Christ. Let us not forget the foundation in which we build upon is Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
