Becoming Overcomers

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

James 1:12-27
(12) Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
(13) Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
(14) But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
(15) Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
(16) Do not err, my beloved brethren.
(17) Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
(18) Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
(19) Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
(20) For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
(21) Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
(22) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
(23) For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
(24) For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
(25) But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
(26) If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
(27) Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

How to be overcomers in this world where anything seems to be okay unless it obtains to the law or religious fundamentals and conservatives. Two powers in place to give direction on things good and bad for those with or without faith. Funny thing about written law is anyone has the ability in themselves to obey it. Most average people never get out of line to the laws of religion or the laws of the land. In fact it easier to look at the stats of law breakers then to to tell the world millions of people obeyed the law today. It is easier to look at evil people are in general then to say someone did everything right. Yet there offenders of the law that great by with sin everyday. Masques murders live in normal neighborhoods never being punished, either because they are never caught or they are part of the correction society that no one ever complains about. It like closed eye of things that go on that is still classified as a crime that goes unpunished. Then there is other things of sexual misconduct of men thinking they can have any woman they want and care little how they make a woman feel. Or a woman thinking she can have any man she wants never realizing she selling herself to the devil every night of the week. When it comes to sin everyone has the power to say I can overcome, but one has to decide it wrong first to overcome the evil.

Temptation is that thought before wrong or right happens. It is the difference in putting a winter hat on in 0 degree temperatures or saying it okay God will protect me. Do not use temptation as a means to misuse God. One might not get sick in cold temperatures without a hat and in some cases one might. Yet to know you need to wear a hat and do not is only giving a good reason for the flu bug or chills to attack you.

Dealing with temptation is the big decision to say no or yes to what is to come. Whether one does good or one does evil. Yet what is not defined is how does faith work when it comes to temptation. God is not going to allow his children to be tempted beyond what they are able to say no too, yet it does not mean that they will say no. The Holy Spirit is in place to remind us what we can not retain in our heads and heart concerning temptation of sin. The Holy Spirit reminds us what the word of God says and what the truth of God’s word really is. God is not a God that tempts man. The Holy Spirit is a safety net for the believer to keep from sinning. The Holy Spirit speaks to the heart before we sin to believer. A believer is cleansed from all unrighteousness, first through being sanctified when saved and then throught he sanctification process during their walk with God.

Do I really need a co-pilot in my life? One that corrects me before I sin? There is sin that one would never commit if the are walking with God, the first sin is un belief. If you walking with God then you have first command of faith. Many good people in the world never believe in God. They know what is right and wrong by the law or agreement of the law of man. Yet never understand who their Creator is. That highway leads one straight to the gates of hell. The highway toward heaven is one of faith, believing in the miracles of God, believing in God’s word as both his Spirit and the written word speaks truth to the heart. The assurance that God is going to be with you through thick and thin. The knowledge his blessings are true. To over come temptation is to be given a crown of life as a believer. A crown that we give thanks to God for and lay at his feet in heaven. We bow before the thrown prostrated. Yet we rise to word knowing we are faithful as his servants if we follow after Him. That crown does not come tell we reach heaven. For temptation will come and go in one’s life until death. The devil will try again and again to deceive the believer. And as the believer gets skills from God to fight him, he no longer a threat, but something to tread upon with the foot and keep walking. There is no weapon formed against man that can not be destroyed. Yet to see the devil destroyed must come from God. For Christ has the key to the gates of hell and will lock the devil away for eternity. Flee from temptation and draw near to God. It is the only way God word declares it. The benefits of following God is to know the protection of God. To know that jumping out of a plane with a parachute is risky but to jump from the mountaintop because the devil told you receive all of the world is tempting God. Jesus found himself being tempted by the arch enemy of God only to tell him that he was not to tempt God. That those things that the devil promised was not his give. Devil is going to tell you if do what he says do, then it going to feel and look good. Yet it truth to do what the devil says never looked or felt good for very long.

Dear Heavenly Father teach us to flee from temptation. Reminding us that we will receive a crown of life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
