Jesus came to bring division. A division one might ask, how can Jesus be about division if he came to bring peace to the world. Jesus also came to bring judgment to the world. To set it on fire by Holy Spirit. To bring the correction of God to the people. Let us begin by remember the groups of people Jesus minister to. People in opposition of the ways of God. People in opposition to the Gentile government in the land they lived in. This opposition in a home can be worse then a voting year. I been looking at candidates for the past several months and all I can say I pray who ever gets in is kind to believers and hopefully a believer themselves, yet have the compassion to deal with the non believer by the law that is agreed upon. I have not had peace in my home since I took up examining political world. I be honest the diversity can sometimes be good in opinion and evil when it brings division.
Jesus was of the Jewish faith and Messiah to the world. His message was in opposition to both political and religious law in one since. He came as high priest and king. Yet he came as a small baby. He lived in a home of political Jews from the kingly line and the priestly line was the religious law. These two laws are often in opposition. It is these laws that divide what is tolerable to social and political law to division of religious law. David ate the shew bread when is men were hungry yet it was against religious law. Yet as king his interest was for his fighting men, who needed nourishment for the journey and war ahead. It would cost the priest his life. God’s judgment or legal law judgment or both? Yet David was not punished for this beyond getting himself a good taste of sleeping in arm length of the enemy in a cave and then in the morning declaring is location to the king. Did David get punished by God for eating the shew bread, only in the since he was not allowed to build the temple. Had he desecrated what was rightfully God’s, so that instead of asking God for provision he took from God? Yet David had a heart for God and God showed David mercy. Yet when Jesus disciples picked corn on the Sabbath opposition arose because they were harvesting food to eat which was work on the Sabbath. Jesus also healed on the Sabbath, and this was consider work, yet the idea of it being wrong was crazy because it was act of benevolence, which was allowed on the Sabbath day. Was gaining food for so wrong, one might ask? Yet all these events caused division to the religious leaders and the Gentiles loved it.
Fire the Jesus was kindling had to do with religious law before the law of Moses. Law in the time of the Gentiles. A law at the time when God was still sovereign and yet man lived by the rules of the region by social custon. Abraham had more then one wife, yet the law of one man and one woman was established in Genesis but that was paradise law. Yet man did what was best to protect woman in the Old Testament and yet also brought judgment to them unjustly. Fact is Jesus was bring the worship of God out of the temple into the city streets and into the countryside. God’s word was being taught to all people and being discussed in the temple, in countryside, and in the city streets.
God’s law verses the law of tradition. The law that divide a good Samaritan and the religious leaders in helping a person beat up on the side of the road. When religious law causes division, and spiritual law of love kicks in, one has to ask what time are we worshipping God in. Jesus time period was when the law of God was no longer in authority, but was allowed by the legal system for those that followed it. Legal law stayed out of it even unto death in Christ case, for Pilot washed his hands of the whole mess of Christ crucifixion and obeyed the religious leaders and the crowd, though they themselves had a right to put Jesus to death because he represent king and religious leader different then he what appeared to be religious law and legal system. In truth this opposition got Jesus killed.
It is the very thing that cause chaos in the world and division to religious world. It is a fire by the Holy Spirit to bring people to him and away from gods of this world that try to fix everything. Yet God establishes these rules to help the people. Giving them what they asked for so they could see the need of Him. Jesus division had to do with his own dividing of the law and religious law to suit the needs of his disciples and those in need for healing. Yet at the same time pointed to God his Father, and obedience to religious law of faith. His fire would cause controversy over religious and political law. A division that still exist in our world today and exist before the time of Christ. The plagues of Egypt only went against he political world and not the followers of God. God’s protection for his people was there in the plagues of Egypt. Moses with each plague was declaring by God’s word a war on the political world. Yet no one would ever say it that way. It was a war that God said do. It was a war of judgment on Egypt. Godly war is not evil war if you are believer and follow God’s word. Yet be on the side of judgment and you are going to suffer. Yet Jesus by his coming caused his people to suffer for Him. Suffering that would be from political and religious world. A suffering of right and wrong.
It be easier to worship as always by religious law and obey the political law. Yet Jesus came to bring truth and not allow these two leaderships to stop his authority God had given him even to the cross of suffering. For suffering was not vain for He rose to victory out of the tomb. This division you feel inside the church and political world is normal. It learning to live in this world with both groups when in opposition finding that middle ground of compromise. Christ brought a revolution that is still going on. Are you standing with Jesus in the fire and trying not to get burnt. Be in submission to His will and it all will work out.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your grace and mercy. May your authority be over all the earth always despite what those in power understand and recognize. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
