Silencing The Opposition

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Mark 12:13-34 KJV
13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.
14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.
16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.
17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.
18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,
19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.
21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.
22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.
23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.
24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.
28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

Right Now President Trump would love to silence his option no doubt. His speech different then his oppressors. When I talk of the Senate being his oppressors we forget that the three sections of our government has the right to oppose the other, but not with insurrection. Jesus continues teaching in the temple even after his insurrection in the temple. He remains there only teaching those who would listen including the religious leaders and zealots of the law(Herodians) of both God and man. If we only see Jesus peaceful attempt to stride back into the temple and teach as a preacher, prophet, or teacher, we fail to see his appearance is not question, they sought to catch him in teachings.

No doubt that all Biblical Scholars can catch each other in errors. These errors often caused by human error, getting sidetracked to left or right and not rightly dividing the word of truth. Jesus being the word of truth is not going to error in teaching, but maybe in example. First thing the Herodians question is about paying tribute(taxes). Jesus asked for a penny, and then asked who was inscribed on that penny? Then he says render to Caesar what is Caesars and give to God what is God's. That a hard lessen in itself, for the things we use on this earth and own, belongs to God whether we are willing to give those things up or not. Yet we told with tithe and offerings that we will be blessed. Yet we look at things as being owned by us. How easy is it to part with the most treasured possession, sometimes not so easy, and sometimes not easy at all. The sentimental value of something weighs out even to a poor person. This lessen good for rich or poor, but rich can buy things back and poor person it a true sacrifice.

The Sadducees come and they do not believe in a resurrection, but do believe in heaven. Yet the question come about a woman that marries seven brother's. Each brother turn for marriage comes and each brother dies during the marriage, and so the next brother marries and also dies and so on and so forth til all seven brothers are dead. The law was for the brother's to marry the other's one's wife if the one she was married too died. The question is about who wife would she be in the resurrection. First off these men do not believe in the resurrection so it is a trap, but Jesus response is how God response to Moses, that he is a God of living the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. With response there is no more argument from the Saduccees, but a scribe knowing he probably answered wisely begins to question Jesus about the greatest commandment, and Jesus says to love the Lord your God and the second commandment is asked the scribe. Jesus said to love one another. The scribe says that Jesus spoke truth. See to love God and to love others sums up the whole law, but it is to love the Lord with all one's heart, all thy understanding, soul, and strength, if one does this then it worth all burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Jesus tells the scribe he is not far from the kingdom. It simple love is more important to God then anything else. Why because he is love, for his love is unconditional. OUr love to be unconditional, is to patient, kind, gentle, long suffering and so forth. Jesus at the moment of insurrection failed, and he begin in the next section to set a trap for religious leaders.

Mark 12:35-44 KJV
35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David?
36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.
38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,
39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:
40 Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

We Jesus ask how did David say "The Lord said to my Lord, til he make his enemies thy footstool?"(Psalms 110). We have to know that the word here maybe speaking of David and his Son and not always Lord of God of all creation and His Son, but it could mean both. David is not a God, but little god, meaning his power and authority as leader and ruler. Many battle lines drawn toward the end of David's kingship, though peace was able to be maintained even unto the time of King Solomon. He was reminded those listening that he was like a little god because of his teaching being scripture, but he also declares his Lordship more then once. We must be careful on how Christ is perceived and known, the words being used in multiple since of power to quiet the religious leaders that understood not who he was. Only with the resurrection would many then understand. He begins to warn about religious leaders that are so puffed up with their wardrobe and their status that care nothing for those they are suppose to serve and would receive a great damnation, because even their prayers were for show and not belief.

Jesus seen a poor woman that gave all she had and a rich man that just put in from his abundance. There is difference in the giving of the poor and the rich, one is out of sacrifice and one is out of luxury. The woman had cast more then the rich, because it came from the heart and not from abundance of possessions. We do well when we sacrifice from the heart. Some sacrifice comes easier then others. It more then just a command of God to give from heart, but it about loving and doing your best to help someone else in need. It not easy choice to make. It up to each individual to decide what they give and how they give, not always the religious leaders, but the rules of God as he requires it.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to love others to give sacrificially from our heart, to demonstrate our love for you and our love for others because you first loved us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: John 15:9-17 KJV
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
