Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Mark 9:33-50 KJV
33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?
34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.
35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Jesus teaches in Capernaum in a house, and he desire to know what they were discussing. It was about who was the greatest among them. That when Jesus began to be the greatest one need to be a servant to all. What does this truly mean will it simple really have you ever meet people in small groups that seem to be a leader to all but maybe a few. Have you ever wonder why they were leaders to these people, it not because they had the biggest voice, or the biggest pocketbook, or even because they had some great talent necessarily. A hardworking person earns their dues by their willingness to perform not only the least task, but to help all they work with. Some might hand out lunches and do alot of the work, but it those that are willing to get their hands sweaty with you that you want beside you or in leadership. Why because they know how hard it is to work, they know what it is to save a penny, they know what is to serve and not just lead. Now not all want to be leaders, but some just want to be great with fan fair and attention. They want stardom without knowledge. They want the rich life style without the work. They want respect without giving respect. I actually know people like that, and realize some of these people I actually had respect for at one time until they did me dirty. Most of us know people like this. If you wait long enough you will see these people desire greatness that achieve it without merit, and eventually they will fall. Those that achieve it with merit will gain reward even more, because they never forget the little man at the bottom of line, they see his need as great as his own and is willing to serve him too.

When it comes to God's kingdom we are all equal, no one great or less, for God serves us all. Christ chose leaders to help him in ministry and so he choose many to help him, but the call is not just so we are helpers of Jesus, but Jesus aids us in his work. No shop keeper hires someone and does not hand them a broom or tools to keep the store clean, and yet his money that he pays them is to aid them in their financial need and should be paid a good days work. Those that hire and works a man to the point he is broken down, and throws him to the dogs when he is broken down, is no better then a theif who steals all the dog has. Why because the man lost not only his wages, but those friends that he learn to work and trust as well. It almost like that game of survivor no one cares if you the one being kicked out, there no compassion for the one that gets voted out, but maybe a hug good bye.

In Christ kingdom there needs to be respect for all that come preaching in Christ name, yet there are times when wolves or devils come preaching in the name of Jesus, only for money, cares nothing for those that can not work for him, nor cares for children. There is no compassion for others. That not who Jesus talking about. He talking about people preaching in his name, giving a glass water and helping the sick, not for their personal gain but to share what Christ has blessed them with, maybe a miracle, maybe only salvation and maybe if nothing else but love for the ministry of Christ, who gave freely of his time and money and let's not forget power to heal, to forgive, and to perform wonders.

There are people that will help others in name of Jesus, but may not be a part of your group, but it does not mean they were not part of the kingdom of God. Jesus begins to also talk about sin and those things that damage others from the faith, might as well tie a millstone around one's neck. Someone that sin, and the sin is caused by an arm, then it would be better to cut it off. If something is causing you to be something you should not be better to get rid of it. However it better to keep the arm for work and get rid of the sin. Sometimes that even means friends, if they cause you to live as you should not. One thing is to sit with sinners and another thing to sin with sinners. Jesus ate with sinners but did not choose their sin. It better to be without the thing that causes one to sin, then to have sin in that one area of one's life. That not to always to destroy the sin/sinner, but to remove the sin. Jesus is harsh to say remove the arm or the hand that causing the sin, to show or demonstrate the seriousness of removing sin from one's life is.

The teaching on sin sounds harsh but it reality, sometimes we got to remove the candy bar from diet, or the fat to loose the weight. Sometimes we have to eat more protein to loose the weight, and some people need more salads in their diet to loose the weight. Each need not the same parts remove to get rid of the sin, why, because the problem is not always the same, but it is about the temptation that causes one to be glutton, selfish, mean spirited, out of control, tyrant, evil, gossip, a hoarder, an adulterous, an idolator, or more. Does what you do lead you into sin, if it does get rid of it. Not everyone can study other religious without falling prey to their grip. Not everyone can go into a store and not shoplift. Not everyone can stand in a crowd of drug addicts and not become an addict. Not everyone can work with drunks and not become a drunk. Not everyone can work with a criminal without the perfect crime being entertained both in thought and discussion. Yet what if the discussing something becomes a crime, not by the talker, is that a crime, Former President Trump is being charge with it, yet worse crime is heard in the marketplace sometimes. What is the difference, evidence, no effect, no crime committed. Words in themselves are not harmful until they take action. Words only have power if they cause action, but did it cause the same action in everyone that heard it.

The other day I heard a really bad insult, and then I realized a few minutes later the person was not only insulting the person he was talking to, but his very own wife. When I realized that, I knew it was old timers disease probably or a man that forgets where his own money came from. Jesus knew where his power came from it came from God, but he was also a part of God because he was the word of God in the flesh. He knew his life in the flesh was short lived, but he knew the respect given him came from hard work, long hours and many days of ministry. Ministrying to those in need, those suffering, those without money and those that were wealthy. His ministry was not based on wealth, but on the care of his loving Father for humanity, to bring peace to all mankind. God desire to make peace with us, not to destroy us. Sending his Son to pay for our sins, was the solution. His word would be sacrificed by the death of his Son, only to restore it, to resurrect it in the hearts of those that believed and not in the hearts of those that did not, but those that desired it.

What do I mean evil people desire God. Well it like this we are all evil according to scripture(Genesis 6). We all desire to know God, to have his mercy and grace in our life. Yet do we have understand about what that mercy and grace is about. To just preach hellfire and brimstone, does little good without example of love and grace. There are evangelist that can preach hellfire and brimstone and people get saved immediately. There are ministers and preachers that perhaps show more of God's grace with their congregation and see great results of conversion. Yet without ever preaching about hellfire and brimstone, you have only grace and no mercy. God is pronouncing his mercy and grace through his Son. He always had love and mercy through out scripture, but this is for this generation to understand about his love, mercy, through signs and wonders, so they can pass it on. Each generation has to at some point be a witness of his mercy and grace to receive it. Yet what will it take for you to receive God's mercy and grace in one's life. When the realization there is eternity beyond our world, then the reality of heaven and eternal lake of fire can be understood. The consequences for action against God, and faith in God. God requirement to believe in his gift his Son.

Dear Heavenly Father, may your grace of your Son be enough for us to receive your word with hope and promise. To know to serve you is to serve others as you serve mankind even today, in Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Galatians 6:1-9 KJV
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
