Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Luke 22:32-39 KJV
(32) But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
(33) And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
(34) And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
(35) And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
(36) Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
(37) For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
(38) And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
(39) And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.

Jesus was clear at the end of ministry before the cross, when he told the disciples for now on to take a money bag with you and two swords. All this time while Jesus was with His disciples the worry for food and safety was at a minimum. After all Jesus would just say cast those nets into the sea and fish were caught even if fishing all night and they caught nothing. The little boy with the fish and bread not enough to feed even a few people but it feed the five thousand. The miracles at the hands of his people.

Jesus also warns Peter in this passage that he would deny him three times. Yet when it was over to strengthen the other disciples, because the devil had asked to test Peter. In truth the two things going together had to cause Peter to wonder where Jesus was going still, yet only realizing he himself would be willing to go even to jail or to death with Jesus. As long as Jesus was with his people they had no worries. He just gave to them one miracle after the other, imagine the culture shock of not having food or fish when you wanted it or had need of it, because of the miracles. However we do not know If gifts and money was handed to Jesus because of the miracles or not, we can assume that their was a profit out of the people’s desire to give. Yet the real test would be when Christ was no longer with Peter and could no longer protect, and provide on a regular bases needs. They would be working just like everyone else to scrape for food and other needs. Yet a minister was worthy of his higher.

Jesus said in one passage there would always be physicians. When you put that thought with working and swords, one gets the idea the convinces of miracles would not remain. Yet there is still times of miracles, and time of provision. The weakness that would come with seeing Jesus crucified and resurrected. The joy complete with the resurrection but for two days there would be great anguish over Christ death on the third day unspeakable joy. Yet Peter was continue being the rock as Jesus called him to be. He was not chief corner stone, but he was one of the rocks like each disciples was that was part of the building of Christ Jesus’ church.

If God cares for us so much why would allow time of testing and time of no miracles for even daily food? If our purpose is to glorify the Godhead, then we must think again about what we ask. Every miracle that comes God’s name will be glorified. Yet growing back of limbs is not an everyday occurrence, but it said to happen. It is happening for a purpose. It happening to bring revival to a people who either no not God or never heard the name of Jesus, to bring them hope of everlasting life, also for the spread of the Gospel, and to glorify God.

Time of testing is so when other struggle we will know how to respond with strength and wisdom from the Lord. Knowing we had our times of denial and times of lack of faith, but God desires to strengthen each of us. Revival a time of renewal, a time of strengthen the church. Peter had no trouble getting a crowd after Jesus went into heaven, miracles still happened, but God’s provision is not always with miracle or even provision. Sometimes it is a doctor and work. One might say Jesus was preparing his disciples for that time He would not be with them in flesh. A time that was coming to end. Jesus purpose in coming was about to be complete and the need of regular life would return to the people faith. Yet miracles still would come, and the power of the Holy Spirit would perform many miracles. Peter own shadow would cause miracles of healing by the Holy Spirit.

What Jesus is saying is his time being up meant they would be responsible for their daily living needs. Not just being about God’s business. In truth that is important for a believer. Jesus had taught them how to hold a revival, now all they had to do was hold a revival by praying for the sick and knowing some would be healed, and some would not because of a lack of faith, sin or not God’s timing.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for provisions by the warnings that they were fixing to pick up their own cross for the journey. That cross of faith and walking by the Spirit no matter what comes. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
