My Eyes Have Seen The Lord
12/23/2019

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 2:25-38 KJV
25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Simeon a man of devout faith waited on consolation of Israel. The Consolation is define in the greek as a consoler or comforter, even one finding solace or refreshing. The man had waited for someone that would be a light to the gentiles. Jesus was set for fall and rising again of many Israel and a sign which shall be spoken against. Mary heart would be pierced so the thoughts of many hearts would be revealed. Simeon was waiting not only as all of Israel waited but also because God had spoken to his heart that he would see the Messiah before his death. Not all would understand who Jesus was, God only revealed it to those who waited on the promise. There is both spiritual and physical nation of Israel. Not all of nation of Israel would receive the Messiah as being the Messiah, nor were they of faith of Abraham or even Moses. Yet those that were would see and know the Messiah was who He was. Those righteous by faith the promise was revealed too. One thing we can understand there was more then one believer at the time of Messiah birth. More then one would see the promise that is born. Simeon was old, but his waiting and perserverance in his wait paid off. Part of waiting for God is a test of faith. Simeon was old ready to die at the calling of His Spirit. Yet he was still strong and reach out held the baby up to the Lord and blessed God and rejoiced in his salvation. For the Savior was revealed to him.

Mary was prophesied too, that she would hear the thoughts of those around her as her son fell and raised again. That her own soul sould be pierce by the events to come in her Son's life. We know Mary was at the cross, we know her heart had to have broken and then mend with raising of her son. Yet she also heard something not heard by others before or not in any place I can remember, but she heard the thoughts of others, perhaps the question, the hope, the passed flashing through her own body, to help her heal, to giver her voice, to help her through the pain of seeing her son on the cross.

Simeon prophesied who Jesus was but a light to the gentiles. Speaking as if a prophet or a teacher, a savior. Faith is the key of salvation to the door of salvation for man, but salvation is given by Christ through belief upon Him. He not only the door but the key in which all men must travel through to be saved. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle then a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. Verse is in Matthew. it means that Camel crawl though the door into the city was called a needle. They would have to get down on all fours and crawl through if the big city gate was not opened. Slowing down the entrance into the city to protect against an attack at night. Rich man lack faith, or no faith, and could not be saved because of unbelief because of his ability to use his money to control, to accomplish to be all he can be with his money. Faith is taking the impossible and make it possible yet even the Magician of Pharaoh could not perform some plagues God sent on Egypt. The denial of the rich man ability verse God's ability. God is greater and can out perfrom any wealth in the world. The coming Messiah born into a working family not necessarily rich but one not afraid to lift his hand to work, presented two pigeons of a poor man for the offering of his Son required by law, but was greater blessed by obedience ot the law by man that waited on the appearance of the Messiah. I can not help but think if I was Joseph I would have wanted to sit and talk to Simeon for a long time, of anything God may of revealed about his Son.

Now Anna was like Simeon in regards of waiting for the coming of the Messiah, had no promise given that she might see the Messiah, but upon seeing the Messiah prophecied likewise to all that Jesus was the Messiah. If you stand in the knowledge that Jesus is Lord can be silent to the fact he has come and will return one day. The prophecy revealed in the temple the house of God in Jerusalem. How and when the wise men came is a mystery, and perhaps what we can understand is the star was over the house, which was in Bethelehem in the direction Pharoah sent the wise men. Time lapse of two year time frame from when the star appeared and eight day time lapse between Bethelehem and Jerusalem. How close had Mary and Joseph been to the Pharoah, we do not know, nor how many days are missing from the timeline between the camels and Joseph by passing each other traveling back to Bethelehem. There is mystery around the birth of Christ that is not revealed. Nothing can change the mystery of the virgin birth or the celebration of his birth. Yet what we can know with God all things are possible and no matter what cause the time lapse between, is also the mystery that allows us to understand there is much that is not revealed in scripture or recorded even in own life that may not make full sense at times, but what does make sense is the possibility with God.

Prophecy revealed is also prophecy of hidden knowledge by God to the rest of the world. Not everything God reveals to individual is revealed to the world, without a spokesman. Simeon had revelation he spoke about perhaps to others that told he would not see death tell he seen the Messiah, and yet who would believe such a claim, Anna who would believe her report to those around standing near that this baby would be salvation to Israel. Are we in dark about prophecy. What about Christ return. We can either take scripture and analyze to the point that we wonder about missing things or we can accept the recorded record that these things were the most important things to tell.

Perhaps the answer lies more in the impossible being possible, much like the return of Christ can only be possible if you believe in Christ, no it possible despite what one thinks or imagines. See God's word comes before faith, comes, before our need of faith, comes with hope to the world once revealed to his creation that need faith. Adam and Eve walked in the garden knew God but desire another God and obey that other God. Do we need another God, or more faith. Hope is not revealed because of lack of faith, it revealed to increase faith. Simeon experience was a testimony of faith. Anna was decaration of faith to others revealed in the retelling.

Dear Heavenly Father may our faith be not just in revelation to ourselves but in the retelling of the revelation of your salvation and one day return. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Mark 10:25-27 KJV
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
