The Mourning Of Rachel
12/21/2019

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 2:16-18 KJV
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.
17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

The evilness of leaders can be that they kill the unborn and young children. The wickness of leaders kill even the old. It nothing knew. It part of history of the world, not just Israel, not the gentile nation of the day and time of Christ. Jesus was threat to any king of both the time of crucifixion and at the time of his birth. Israel kings were often crown very young and raised up into position of leader. Jesus was a spiritual king that would come and rule on earth when he returns as a king. Is He a threat today. Not really to anyone, because his leadership as a king only can occur with his return coming down in a cloud from heaven the same way he depart off the earth. Now with that mind unless the appearance happens there is no earthly threat. Only threat is to spiritual leaders and spiritual groups not of faith of Christianity. This then is only spiritual battle on earth and one that will not cease til the return of Christ because it is a personal decision that each and everyone has to make to follow Christ.

Herod did not start searching for the young child until it been about two years after the wise men had been at his palace. We do not know how long Mary and Joseph were gone from the time Herod began to look for the young child or the exact time the wise men arrived at the house where Jesus was. What we do know is upon the dream Joseph immediately took his family to Egypt. Then the most horrible thing happened in Bethelehem. The location of where the child was to be born was left in tears and mourning. They killed the children of Bethelehem from age two and under. Herod had them killed hoping to destory and kill the new king. Not a new custom but old one. The time of Moses the Pharaoh killed all the Hebrew baby boys, not because of Moses, but because of the number of hebrew people that were in the land. The reason Rachel went weeping to her grave was because her Son Joseph was killed. Actually this is more of a reference of Isaac weeping for his son Joseph, who was said to have been killed by a wild animal but he was alive sold into slavery not known to Isaac. Rachel mourned never knowing his son was alive. Rachel mourning is not only reference to Genesis but to Jeremiah. In fact Matthew quotes Jeremiah 31:15 KJV "Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not." It reference in Jeremiah speaks of the time when Babylon killed and also took Israel(Rachel's husband) children away from her. The devil will do anything to destory a people from captivity to killing to destory God's people. Yet what God does is restore his people and return them to there homeland.

My homeland the place of my birth is Northern Virginia. I am not there. Have not laid eyes of that location in over 30 years. It bothers me not in the least. Yet I am not from that region necessarily, I claim only from one state. Yet I have lived in another state, once by my choosing and another not by my choosing, for I was to little to make that decision. The point being it is the choices we make as to do with are we in obedience to God. We can leave a place in command by God and we can be in another in form of exile. Whatever the reason one is where they are, they have a obligation to live as Joseph in scripture did in obedience to those in authority in his life and still one can face times of trouble, but God is a rewarder of those who obey him. God is a forgiving God that when you begin to submit to him, he often takes you from exile to the promise land. To the place of rest. Those that see not the promise because of age, they receive the promise in eternal life because they choose to believe and follow God and Christ(word/word in the flesh John 1:1-14) by His Spirit.

Abortion in our land is like the time of King Herod. We think that by aborting a child it solves the problem. NO abortion never solved anyone's problem only removed the evidence of the situation. King Herod figured if he killed all under the age of two the evidence of a new king would be removed and he have no fear In his life time he had no fear for he would die soon after(tomorrow lesson). Women who had abortions face the inability of being able to have another because of being in a place that cared no more about that baby then they did for the women in crisis. The truth is the woman's sin did not depart with the absence of the baby, but the guilt now intensified with the murder of unborn child. Our nation is laced with the guilt of murder. And every woman that aborted not because of health reason or the death with in the womb is dealing with her own guilt of sin, everytime it is mentioned. Instead of healing these woman the world will like to destroy them, yet often the world did nothing to stop the murder of an unborn child. What can we say then is the world corrupt it is, and it was at the time of Herod as well. Governments can stop legal abortion, but they can not prevent illegal ones from occuring. We as a nation must except instead of every baby not yet born should be considered a blessing and not a curse, but hope for the next generation if we can love the current generation. Love the living and live those coming and remember the love of those who passed before us. Can we this Christmas season find the hope the child of God being born in a manger sent as a peace offering to us from God so his love for mankind could abound in the lives of the human race. Those who have sin by having abortion need to know God still loves them and can forgive them, especially done in ignorance, or misinformation. God still can forgive those knowing what they have done, because he has grace to forgive them. If he can forgive the world for nailing his Son(Word in the flesh) to the cross, he can forgive things we understand not. Let us show more grace to the sinner.

Dear Heavenly Father grant us grace to love and to hold to the hope of next generation of peace, love and hope until the promise of Christ return comes. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Genesis 37:32-35 KJV
32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's coat or no.
33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.
34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him..
