Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 1:1-17 KJV
1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
2 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
4 And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
7 And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
This be perhaps one of the shortest lessons I type out. However it maybe one of the most interesting one in one regards of family genealogy. The Genealogy of Jesus is mentioned in two places, Matthew 1 and Luke 3 and I listed both today one in main scripture passage and one in continual scripture passage. It can be a time consumming read and perhaps the only value is to date the time period of Jesus for the Jewish people who desire dates and timelines on historical perspective. This only has value if you dealing with someone who is studying time period of Christ arrival for accuracy to see if this is the prophet Messiah. Yet it more then that, the two timeline do not seem to coorelate with names. The reason being Joseph family line would of been one in question, It might be that it list both the male line of both his mother and father side. He being a descendant of both the kingly and priest side. There are other theory to difference in genealogy and it is all possible to consider. Yet does it have any value for faith or righteousness, none what so ever unless the linage is what sells you on the fact Jesus is the Messiah. With this in mind stay away from genealogy unless there is a purpose for it. However looking at one's own ancestory you find you family line can be very colorful or plain jane, yet there is always at a least a few ancestors that stand out in a crowd.Yet ancestory itself can not save you. When one speaks of Abraham seed by tradition or faith. Being a child of Abraham can be concerning faith or it can be by lineage. Followers of Christ can be by faith, or descendants, no Christ has no physical descendant in the flesh. Christ was celibate and had to be based on the purity of the sacrifice on the cross. All believers and descendants of Christ would only be by faith and not by natural born but spiritual birth.
Genaelogy does it have value it can in a court case, in a tracking of groups of people that seem to demonstrate historical legal issues. However it does not mean everyone in a group is the same or can not over come issue of violence, abuse, or crime. Just like good historical families often have at least a vilan somewhere in history though they may wish to cover it up. Would I consider myself the black sheep of the family perhaps, but it does not mean my wool is not cleaned by the blood of Jesus. Do not be upset by your past, or your history in regards as being a new believer or old one with a history desiring to follow in Christ footsteps or continue to follow in Christ footsteps. Do not be lasso by any pass sin, press forward for Christ, that is your choice and once a decisiont o move forward with Jesus, then you have to be willing to allow God correction in your life by His Spirit. In by His Spirit, he knows what it going to take to get you to move forward in the right direction. How far to let you fall and rise in obedience and disobedience to learn to be obedience to His ways. Chose faith today. God is not going to allow anyone that choose him to not know his grace and mercy in their life. Once a child always a child of God and once born again by faith, there is no turning back, only a lead rope to hang yourself with and yank you back in line into submission. He not a task master except when it comes to his will for the nations and the mass majority. His will individually is not as well known by the masses except individually. So remember if you are in a global plan, God's will, will be done globally.
The generations from Abraham to David was fourteen and David to Exile was fourteen and from exile to the time of Christ another fourteen years. Christ was 33 when he began his ministry on the earth. Historical timeline does it show dispensation? It does it shows God's mercy from point of time to each stage or time. Is it always fourteen years, you have to do a little research from Noah to Abraham, or Adam to Noah and I think what you find is the answer is no. The mercy table is based on the rise of evil and time line unknown for future for the time line was only seen for certain things like destruction and hope. So timelines though fancinating to study can not indicate the return of Christ. If you got a prophet with a timeline of when Christ should reappear beware. For the hour, day, week or year is not known or meant to be known by man. Giving man a chance to make a choice daily to live for God to follow after the ways of God to be saved by belief in Christ. Think before you jump into a group of people predicting dates, it can be a dangerous thing. People will make things happen on a special date to deceive the nation.
Dear Heavenly Father, may your love for us not be thought of as family blood lines but by faith in you. May the world understand you choose a people to bring your Son into to enable faith, and to teach us about faith. Let us not forget you honor people faith despite nationality and always have. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Luke 3:23-38 KJV

8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
