Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisThis is not the normal part of the Christmas pageaent message that is told, but it needs telling because this is after the cross, but it helps with understanding because it also a look back or reference to Old Testament by Paul concerning Israel and their condition in regards to faith in God and faith in Christ. The first law of God would be faith in regards to salvation. Without faith how can one be saved, they can not be. Yet the second law would not to bow to false idols but to God only, and third law would be perhaps not to see yourself as a God, but to be humble before the Lord knowing that your own sin separates yourself from God, Jesus/Word and the Holy Spirit.Romans 11:1-4 KJV
1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
God has never ever forsaken his people Israel, as long as they had faith in him. God has never forsaken a Gentile with faith. No one has an issue understanding of God calling Israel in the since of teaching faith, that they were called God's people because they worshipped God. Yet it is the Israelites that turned from God and worshipped idols that are lost sheep of Israel. It hard understand God call to a people not his own that believed in him also. If we look at Gentiles mention in Old Testament we learn some had faith others knew not this God of Israel, or they to could have the promise if they would just worship him. Paul a Jew by faith and a New Testament Apostle and preacher, who original name was Saul who persecuted the Christians until he seen a great light and Jesus spoke to him. Cornelius a Jew by faith not by birth probably, was given the message of Christ because God heard his prayer and brought the Gospel to him. God honors men of faith even if not from the tribe of Israel and those that are of the tribe of Israel. A missionary story I can neither confirm or prove, said they went into a tribe that was back in the juggle. The man after hearing and receiving the Gospel at the age of hundred, said he sat by a tree and knew there was a God. There is a point, there those of us that have no doubt there is a living God, even without the knowledge of God being taught in a village. Do we honor this God we know exist or do we worship the things we can see and feel with our hands. People have made stone statues for centuries upon centuries before even the time of Christ. These things are made with human hands and can not harm a soul unless they be thrown or they fall on someone. The image of Baal was a stone idol that had no power. Elijah was upset that his life was being sought and the altars of God had been torn down. Yet even he even knew some of Israel still had faith and God spoke and said he had reserved for himself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. Story of Elijah is I Kings 19:10.
Romans 11:5-11 KJV
5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded
8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.
9 And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:
10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.
11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
God's grace as always been sufficient. Yet how is it sufficient, if the eyes of his people are as if sleet got in their eyes so they can not see, or they been put asleep so they hear not and see not the prophesy of Christ fulfilled, then how can they be guilt of sin of seeing Christ nailed to the cross. How can they be guilt of failing to not honor God's Messiah. They can not be guilty, beyond the guilt of sin of human nature that nailed Christ to the cross. They are not in sin of failing to worship God. They still honor God with their voice in the temple. Christ even worshipped in the temple. God grace did not stop people from worshipping Him, only receiving the hope and promise because of blinders. If Israel could of seen the evil of religious leaders and the evil of the government, would they have allowed it, of course not. Yet when Israel totally wakes from sleep and see who the Messiah is, then their worship will be complete in God the Father, for they will know the Messiah and bow to Him. They will come a day of repentance for all of Israel, but for now some still sleep. The hope of Israel is still a time off for some, and for others God is still waking like he did Paul. If God is still waking then there is hope for Israel even today. One way to wake is the evidence of prophecy.
All of humanity can trace their roots to the time of Noah, but also to Adam and Eve. There is point, if we all belong to one tree are we not part of Israel even if only a cousin. If only a cousin, then not of house of Abraham by birth, but perhaps a child of God by faith in the God of Abraham. No some forsook God before they even knew him or understood who he was. They too have eyes of slumber. Can they be woken to the truth of God and His salvation message through the Messiah. God knows the heart of man and knows all his ways. I have always said if you are breathing you can repent. If you can't breath, your time is up, and you be seeing your maker. God maybe keeping some of Israel asleep for the end times to be revealed, but others are awake to the truth. Let us look not at history of our ancestory, but look to God that created both Jew and Gentile this Christmas and see his hope through His redeemption by His call to the Gentile nation as well as his call through the time of Old Testament. Jesus was making it clear he choose all people to be his children there is no distinquistion between Jew and Gentile when it comes to faith and need for God grace and our need to turn toward God and/repent of sin. God's grace coming in the form of a Savior who was foretold about even before Israel transgression. Maybe God call to the Gentile is to make Israel jealous as it did the gentile nation. It not to cause confusion but understanding both need Jesus, and God grace or none of us could be saved.
Dear Heavenly Father your grace is sufficient for even our blindness you still loved your people because you chose first love them, but then you also love those that sought you because they seen you love and compassion for your people. Help us to receive your love you demonstrated by sending your Son/Messiah that we are to receive your love not misunderstood as an action or work of ourself that we deserved. Help us to receive your love and grace of salvation because you love us first. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Ephesian 2:8-10 KJV
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.http://www.turtle30cshell.com
