Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Mark 10:46-52 KJV
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

The hardest thing in faith is to receive what God gives sometimes. To be able to reach out and proclaim his promise in our life. A person may of received Christ as Lord, but they never received forgiveness for sin and continue to beat themselves up over thing they can not change and was wrong. I do know that in order to receive something from God you have to believe it. It hard to believe God on things that are beyond our comprehension. A person can know there is eternity in regards to heaven and hell or is it something taught by religious folks. Or is it something understood by the fact we have laws that once broken people are put behind bars or tormented by society until restitution and if there is a God in the human mindset, there would be a paradise and a prison for evil. Based perhaps on the idea of a better tomorrow and the fact evil is punished sooner or later. The law of nature that is ruled by what comes around goes around. We are so many generation since original man that the full realization of heaven, and earth that our mindset is without knowledge of Adam and Eve reality of a paradise. Yet we know by faith the reality of heaven and hell. It does take belief. But is it easier to say receive thy sight or teach about the kingdom of heaven as Christ clearly did. Or it easier to say thy faith has made thee whole as Christ did the blind man.

For some people it hard to believe the Bible is a book to be believed and not questioned beyond the historical account of wars, and events in the lives of a group of people. To believe in a God that has power to destroy but power to heal those that follow him, is something that must be taken on faith. Sometimes as a believer we get blinded by faith, and sometimes we become blind to the reality of what it takes to believe. What convinced us as individuals and could what we experienced be duplicated by human condition once we mature, or once we examined the evidence that helped us believe. At some point we have to accept on child like faith, but often there are events to lead up to child like faith of belief.

I began to think of my own faith, i learned it as a child, that not what I mean by child like faith, it more of saying I believe because God's word declares it or His Spirit did. Faith begins when God speaks to our hearts as a sinner, a person in need of hope, a person need of miracle, or a person in need of something not described by human factual concept, but understanding of a spiritual need or something needing to be proven or disproven that there is more then just death to human life, that there something beyond it. Science will tell you about the food change and the cycle of life, but that is not the concept of mans spiritual need of knowing there something beyond our life. Perhaps it begins with a need to have someone greater then ourselves in our life, even above the governmental realm, that when man fails God has not. For his ways are always just because he sees the full purpose and image of every situation.

A man that hollers on the roadside for Jesus calling him the son of David. The crowd tries hard to hush him, And Jesus beckons to him, and the crowd says be comforted because he calls thee. Spiritually when we understand God is reality it can bring a comfort, sin can make us uncomfortable because it anything we do that displeases God. Yet this man that is blind as no fear of Jesus, but come to where Jesus is and Jesus ask him what can I do for you. He desires to see and Jesus tells him his faith has made him whole. He receives his sight and he immeditiately follows Jesus. What can we say. Are we so blind to faith. This man was suffering but he already believed it was possible for Jesus to heal him. How many believe Jesus can heal them, but they never received their healing? Sometimes we have to find a way to receive what God wants to already give us. Mine was Lord if you want me to be healed have the minister come and pray for me. Six months later I was in a church and a minister walked back and prayed for me. God already told me my healing was mine. I could not receive it or reach up and claim it.

What holding a person back from receiving God's blessing could be simply not able to grab hold of the reality of it that it is for them to grab hold of to receive. Jesus tells that blind man to receive his sight. To lay hold of his sight. Now that sounds crazy because with blindness how can one grab hold of something they can not see or change and yet the man by the roadside does grab hold and receive by faith the words spoken by Jesus. Jesus did not touch him, he said receive thy sight and he did by faith.

Sometimes we need a move of a mountain to receive from God. That mountain be the burden of sin. It something all believers go through the day of salvation. We need a load that separates us from God. Christ on the cross cried Father forgive them for they know not what they do. It throught he cross salvation is given to all people, or was forgiveness given to all that repented before the cross. The need for sacrifice removed with the cross for the sacrifice was given before forgiveness was granted. The sacrifice of His Son given upon the cross for our sins. The sacrifice not by man, but his willingness to lay his life down and go to the cross. He claimed his Lordship, knowing the price he would pay, He claimed his kingship knowing the price he would pay, and then he proved it through his resurrection.

Then to understand Paul told his testimony to King Agripa in Acts of how Jesus appeared to him and said he was to be a minister to open the eyes and to turn them from darkness of light and from the power of Satan unto God that they may receive forgiveness of sin and In heritance which are sanctified by faith In Jesus. There three point in the passage in Acts 26:18. One: Ministers role is to bring to bring light to darken world. Two: A minister is to turn a person from of the powers of Satan unto God. Three: For the purpose of forgiveness of sin and so they can have that inheritance of eternal life. Jesus first taught man about light and being able to see, but it expanded to forgiveness and then to the eternal life. Blind man had hope, but he had no sight, he receive the hope that would bring him to follow Jesus in faith. Heaven not presented in this passage, but without sight there is no hope of reality of heaven. Without forgiveness of sin there is no hope of heaven. With knowledge of a superior being, we understand his ability to do whatever he likes. His ability to control forseen, and his power to judge right and wrong by the vision of things he can see. Yet we can also understand in order to receive something from God we do not always have to understand or justify it by our own understanding. Do we deserve forgiveness, the answer is no, should we receive forgiveness the answer is yes, because it a free gift of God. Can we receive sight once blind, God says it possible if we will receive it. Can we receive that hope. Can we ask in order to let Christ know we are ready to receive it, then understand it already granted through the cross of Jesus. The blind man had faith before, but now he received what he long for, so he continued in his faith. Are we receiving God's blessings to continue in faith or just to get riches untold? Be careful for the reason you seek Jesus is it so you can follow him like the man once could see did so. What purpose is your healing? What purpose may God have you to wait for healing. Remember this God allows suffering for a purpose, is your faith still in tack during this time. If not why not.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to follow in your footsteps not for our own lust or greed, but because of our need of salvation from our own sin, and need for a Savior to follow humbly behind. in Jesus precious name, Amen.
