Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Ephesians 6:1-9 KJV
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

When parents of similiar faith cause a child to be angry not at God but at them then one must ask yourself who is following God, the parents or the child. If the child is a grown adult then he or she makes her own decision of faith, and what she believes. I had a friend many years ago that changed religions not faith, what I mean, what she gleaned from the first faith was practiced in her second faith. Yet her beliefs had changed. She still had compassion for others. What she not have was salvation through Christ Jesus. It hurt me, but I knew it would not be me that would convert her if she could be converted. It would have to be the Holy Spirit.

One can not obey a parent when it comes to personal faith. Faith is individual and must come at the heart. When God says obey one's parents he not talking about kneel to their faith. It means to kneel to your conviction in him and Christ Jesus.

Naaman eunuch who got healed of leprosy came back and talk to Elijah about kneeling in a pagan temple to help his master. Normal protocol is obedience to one owner, and yet he would not believe what his master did. The line had been cross in the man's heart by his healing. Yet he was troubled at the duty of servanthood. Think if Paul had been around. He would of told him to be a servant of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. Maybe Naaman prayer should of been let my master see my healing and let it be a testimony of who you are, and that he will no longer bow to idol.

Now we know that not everything happens as we desire it, but it does not mean God did not use Naaman to testify to his master. It means that Elijah understood Naaman from the prespective of a foreign land and that some places killed for disobedience of worship. An act of helping his master bow would not cause any harm to Naaman heart and faith. His convictions was his own and not his master's.

Children can obey God and not obey their parents if it goes against their convictions. The law says everyone has the freedom to believe whatever you want to believe. God's word says something else that we are to believe and put our trust in him. Now you see the issue believers have when talking about their faith. It easy to testify in church the blessing of God but what about to the world, because the world does not always believe in Christ and the Holy Spirit. Many believe in God the Creator, but they stop when it comes to other aspects of their lives.

What is course of action, prayer with testimony, prayer with faith, and prayer for God's intervention that they see the work God is doing in one's life. Emotion maybe anger, and struggle to accept what seems to not change in another. Yet we fail to see God's picture he is making. He knows our love for brethren and family. He knows our desire for all to be in heaven with us someday. The law of obedience can not save a person, but honoring God in your decision of faith is at the heart.

When teaching children to obey one's parents, I mean obey accept when it comes to one's conversion of the heart when one believes in Jesus and parents do not. Faith is yours my friend, not your parents, not your teacher, not your boss, and definitely not any leader in the world where they can force you believe in another name that not as precious as Jesus. Point being in some culture there is a price believing in Jesus, but in other places faith in free to believe in Jesus. Give others the right to choose who they serve and believe in. It hard thing to do sometimes, but it what we must do, because faith without faith is not faith at all. Remember be that person that loves unconditionally.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to obey you in our faith even when in contradicts others that may even believe similiar, until you change our hearts, or changes the other person heart. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 2 Kings 5:15-19 KJV
15 And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.
16 But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.
17 And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules' burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.
18 In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing.
19 And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.
Ephesians 4:13-24 KJV
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
