The Word Of Judgment Coming

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Samuel 2:11-36 KJV
11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.
12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.
13 And the priests' custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;
14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.
18 But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.
19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.
21 And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.
22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.
24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD'S people to transgress.
25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.
26 And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.
27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?
28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?
29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.
32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.
33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.
34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.
35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.
36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

Early life Samuel is understood that he began to serve the Lord without the knowledge of God yet. Next chapter he meets the Lord. Yet here in this chapter he begins to minister before the Lord. Now what it means is much like many believers that were raised in church until we have a personal encounter with Jesus or/and God the Father, we are are still in the baby stage of faith meaning, learning about serving God but no knowledge of who we serve on a personal level beyond what been taught to us. Samuel is grid with a linen ephrod(a symbol of righteousness and faith).

Now in most groups or organizations there always people not of faith practicing faith or performing rituals by religious law, and yet the sons of belial/devil who were in the flesh children of Eli the priest, were obeying their own hunger and lust for meat, instead of performing the ritual sacrifices as required by God. They even sinned with women that came to the temple to worship God. Now we know why Eli in yesterday lesson though Samuel's mom was a temple harlot and he learn real quick she was a righteous woman. Now God had given him Samuel to raise, but even so Eli went about warning his sons of judgment that would come, but his two sons listen not. Then a prophet came and spoke to Eli about his sons and all his household and destruction that was coming. Lord would remove his sons in one day. And then the Lord would raise up a priesthood to serve in the land of Israel in righteousness and faith.

Now Eli warning came with an understanding and question of intercessor for his sons for their sin. Here is the words of Eli,"And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people. Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD'S people to transgress. If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them". Very powerful word coming from a Priest who could not control his children. The words concerning if a man sinned against another man a judge would judge him, but if he sinned against God who shall intervene/intreat for him. The need for the intercessor spoke not only in the book of Job by Job but also in I Samuel by Eli concerning the lack of hope his sons had without someone to intercede.

Eli understood the law of God of intercession or the need for atonement to be made for sin. His priesthood status was to make intercession for the people, and his sons were not performing the duties as instructed but continue to sin against God with no fear of God. They by being born into the priesthood and followed their father work had learned the traditions and honor not even the traditions of the Priesthood as far as sacrificial laws and sexual immorality. They were to be purified when performing the duties of the priesthood. Now the laws of Moses were in place to how the purification laws and the sacrifical laws were to be performed. Christ our intercessor removed the need for the sacrificial law and He is our purifer through his shed blood on the cross. He cleanses us from all sin through the cross. Christ did not remove our need for faith in God and his Word and Son named Jesus. What we see in the Old Testament when it comes to sin is non obedience to the word of God. When we study the New Testament the whole law is summoned up by two commands to love the Lord your God and to love your neighbor has yourself. Yet our sin is paid for by the blood of Christ Jesus and not the sacrificial burnt offering.

The prophet that came to Eli, came with not only a warning, but also a call to repentance. If God is calling you to repentance or judgment he is giving you opportunity by reminding you of his word and call. This is the time to repent and not to be slack in doing so. If your heart is pricked with sin against God better take care of it. No one honor God perfectly, but that why atonement can be made. The son's of Eli and Eli made no changes in their need of repentance despite the word of the prophet. This is the first warning judgment of God is coming. The word of God coming is meaning the prophetic judgment to pass. If the son's of Eli would repent and do the will of God or step down from being Priest God would heal their sin. God always gave to the righteous man first the right to hear the judgment against his family, then he would speak the judgment to his sons if no repentance came, God's mercy was all that would be left. Eli did not make atonement or intercession for his sons. However in the lesson a few days a go Job made intercession for his sons and daughters. Perhaps Eli did not make atonement for his sons because it was they were of the office of priesthood. maybe it because his sons of all people should of known better, and they were making their choice to defile the office of priesthood, that even cause Israel to sin in the sacrificial laws. Eli did warn his sons.

God sometimes warns his people first and then his people warn the heathens and if no repentance comes, God judgment will come. Sometimes the death in a church tells that judgment of God and sometimes it tells just God taking his people home to be with him. Only person that knows is the dying. Those pleading for intercession to God and finding Christ on their death bed, and other dying without Christ and those dying in peace with Christ. The Beauty of death is only the sinner saved by grace or sinner to be judged only knows his eternal fate besides God. The one that appears righteous may be chief among sinners and the one that seems ungodly might have a heart and ephrod of faith and righteousness. Yet two may be perfect in the sight of man in works and deeds. Then the two may be evil in the sight of man. God knows the heart and knows if you receive Christ as Lord. You can not escape God's judgment through his word or be lost from Christ who came in both flesh and blood and through prophecy. If God is sending you correction heed to the warnings of God and return from sin and believe.

Dear Heavenly Father, may we bow humbly before and believe in our heart that Jesus came to save us from our sin and that we receive your Son has our salvation and as our intercessor the word of prophecy of truth when it spoke concerning judgment and salvation for mankind. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Corinthians 4:1-5 KJV
1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

Revelation 19:10 KJV
10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
