Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 21:1-10 KJV
1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,
2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

The accounts of Christ coming on a colt, can be seen in each of the Gospels. I choose Matthew today because it magnifies prophecy in Zechariah 9. I mention in another devotion last month how Christ exalts himself as a king, but I fail to mention that the crowd was ready to declare him king. Out leaders are often chosen by there power to converse with others and to ralley a crowd around them. Jesus had no trouble in ministry of having people around him, he only had trouble with religious leaders of his day and tailbearers. Christ has his coronation as king. He rides into the city of Jerusalem and some knew not who he was, but the crowd that came into the city of David(Jerusalem), knew who he was. The crowd sung Hosanna to the son of David and blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna mean save us! They were looking for a savior to save them not from sin but from the hands of the Romans government.

To speak of Jews needing a Savior from the Romans they were looking for a warrior to go and fight the battle against Rome and over throw them. The religious leaders would not of been in favor of this. Jesus seemed much like a rebel rouser if there ever was one, but what did he do that was wrong besides declare his Lordship, his power, authority and his kingship. All power he had before even his birth. Yet the crowd only understood he was son of David they were looking for. And it stirred up the crowd as they announced him king. The parade route into Jerusalem, the people laid their robes in the path way as one would roll out the carpet and the waving of palm branches as Jesus came riding in to Jerusalem, and spreading of the palm branches in the road. The waving of the Palm branches celebrating his coming to the crowd is a day Christians everywhere rejoice and celebrate because he is Lord.

He told us who he was, but not eveyone understood who he was. Why did so many in Jerusalem not know him, because people were coming in for passover from all over Rome. Not everyone would of heard of Jesus or barely heard of him. The need of opposition and questions within the crowd would by the end of the week lead to Christ death on the cross.

We can not declare ourselves a god or goddess, only God can declare who he is to the people and he did through his Son. The reason he came was not to be a king as a leader, but of our hearts. He would be crucified, and resurrected in the flesh and ascended into heaven for the body of incorruptibility, putting on the garment of indestructibility once more. Christ made it clear of his ability to forgive sin, but he also made it clear with his death and resurrection our sin would be covered, but his word would rise again.

We look for a deliver in this pandemic but are we looking to Jesus, who can remove the virus? No one ever imagined the rush on grocery items? Did anyone imagine the things that are happening in our world. The Bible declares our pandemic, and yet we sit and wonder how did this happened. Well look to scripture of prophecy in Zechariah, I not going to explain Zechariah to you but it a prophecy concerning Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem and His continual kingship in heaven. Even in Zechariah day they were envisioning a man to be king when the Messiah came. The full picture not clearly seen. They looked for someone to fight like Joshua and the power and might of God's Spirit.

This pandemic is minor perhaps to what will come and can come to our world. People have died from common cold and flu for decades and as it kills and new strains appear we in a state of rush to save our planet from the pandemic because of lives lost. But is a pandemic any different then what humans do when they choose to kill a group of people or abort babies. The only difference with a pandemic it has no particiality of who it kills. It kills rich and poor alike with no barriers of saying you can't die because your an asset to the planet. We need our Savior to return, but it will be the Lord's timing and the day is unknown of his return. All I know if we look to Jesus, if effected by the pandemic we either be with him or still here being a witness to destruction and hope of our world. You take 500 thousand people a year to flues and colds and how fast does our world shrink. Pandemics were used when Americans fought indian nations and we wonder why Indians almost became distinct. Small pox was not known about by Indians until white man gave it to them. Bio chemical warfare unheard of during 1700 to now think again. As disease was understood and how it can control people man has used it, to wipe people either out or to protect a people against the enemy. However when this type of warfare happened it often sacrificed their own people to some degree. They also usually had a plan how to solve the situation if it reach their borders. In this pandemic no one had the solution how to contain it, until now, but it effects people economically and people love money.

Method of killing disease is still the same cleaniness, but it does not always prevent death. Death is coming to all of us, when we do not know but we know we might live to grow old. Or we might die young. Yet where our eternity is will be determined by our decision of receiving Christ has Lord and King of our hearts. His kingdominion is not of this world, though he has power to control all things on this earth. He the only one that can cleanse our land of this coronvirus completely. Yet our awareness and what to do can slow it down. In truth we need the miracle cure, we need Jesus to return to us once more. Let us worship him and adore him and remind us why he is only with us by his Spirit at this time on the earth. And that all beleivers have access to the Father and his Son by His Spirit. God is able to do the impossible, but we can not sit idle and wait but must do our part in prayer and meditation on his word, living our life daily as he called us too. Not in laziness or slothfulness. Let us praise Him in our hearts. Do not be angry with God for this pandemic, realize your need for his intervention in our lives and that his authority still rules. It be over soon enough and we back to our daily routines. Let us prayer God will deliver our nation. Examine the How to be Saved link and ask Christ to be your Lord if you have not already done so today.

Dear Heavenly Father as we celebrate Christ Kingship and power, let be reminded that He is coming soon to earth again. That He is the Savior of the world. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Zechariah 9:9-17 KJV
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.
11 As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.
12 Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;
13 When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised up thy sons, O Zion, against thy sons, O Greece, and made thee as the sword of a mighty man.
14 And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.
15 The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.
16 And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign upon his land.
17 For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.
