Every Sunday A Psalms: Why Lord

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 81:1-16 KJV
(1) To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.
(2) Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.
(3) Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
(4) For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.
(5) This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.
(6) I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.
(7) Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.
(8) Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me;
(9) There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.
(10) I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
(11) But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.
(12) So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels.
(13) Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!
(14) I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.
(15) The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever.
(16) He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

Lord why is one of the biggest questions I think we ask God when it comes to Him helping his people, until one is reminded of Israelís backsliding. Why did God not raise up another prophet like Elijah to kill the prophets of Baal. Why did God not speak from the mountain with a voice of thunder like when Israel came out of Egypt? Why did God not shake his people? Then I remember the garden and God was in the garden, Adam and Eve physically and spiritually knew God and still chose disobedience. God is not a control freak as people think. He requires obedience to those that will follow him. He knows his ways will protect his people and his desire to protect them requires action and responsibility from his people. It has nothing to do with God not loving his people, it about giving them choice and the ability to pursue their choice. Man understanding of their choice to sin, verses the choice to obey the voice of God. God is not dull nor is He slave driver. One obeys God it is by choice. There are times Godís children do not want to obey him, but they obey anyway. Each believer learns to obey no matter the cost of the world around him or her. It sounds crazy, why loose something. Ask Lot what he lost through obedience, or even Noah. Noah had to have been convinced that saving his and his family soul was more important then disobeying the voice of God. Yet no doubt there perhaps was times that even Noah felt the sting of the loss of the past times before the flood.

Joseph in scripture did not allow bitterness of being sold into slavery wound his spirit to obey God. He went into the land where the language was not his own. He was sold in bondage to Egyptian soldier, who wife sinned against him and her husband. Joseph landed up in jail for being accused falsely of adultery. His jail sentence soon gave him a chance to testify about God by interpretation of a dream. This one dream interpretation would bring him before the king when he began to have visions he understood not. God used those visions to save both Egypt and Israel from famine. Israel would come and stayed imprison over 400 years; and that was told to Abraham long before it ever happened. Then God woke Israel up by using the plagues of Egypt He sent, and these plagues brought them out of their slavery in Egypt. This journey taught the Israel about obeying God. It has if dragged his children right out of storehouses of Egypt and whipped them all the way home, with evidence of his mercy all the way. Had Israel lost their faith while in Egypt? Did they not regain their faith on the road back home? Had not Israel lost their faith again through disobedience and intermarriage to heathen countries around them? Instead of the Jews being a testimony to the world around them they allowed those idols in. The little girl in II Kings found herself testifying to Naaman about the God of Israel. Her testimony convinced Naaman to go visit the prophet and he was cured of leprosy. Israel seemed to have lost their testimony to the world. There God is not dead He is alive. He sent his Son to wake his people up and they yelled crucify because of their greed for money. God allowed the rejection, only to bring the Gentile people to Him. A people that had some that would listen to him. Anyone willing to obey and listen to God and believe in His Son he gave the right to be called His children.

In the Psalms in the scripture reading for today I see several things, Manís need of God and his question why Lord. Why are you not delivering your people? The question comes with obedience and disobedience. Freedom to worship and obey God almighty was a choice from the garden but disobedience to God was not allowed in the garden, because it was Godís home. That why God gave us the Holy Spirit of promise to the believer to enable us to obey Him, but one still had the free choice not to obey. The devil believes and trembles but does not obey God. Are you still saying why me Lord? I do not understand? The question is simple obey God and believe. God will deliver has he did Noah and his family. Lot family failed obedience. Where had Lotís testimony gone? Where as your testimony gone? Where have you failed? Are you failing now, just repent and obey Jesus today.

Dear Heavenly Father move the mountains of faith, to enable us to believe even when no evidence of hope is forth coming. Enable us to believe even when the inability feels short lived and we fail to listen to you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
