God's Marking

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Ezekiel 9:1-11 KJV
(1) He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.
(2) And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brasen altar.
(3) And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;
(4) And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
(5) And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity:
(6) Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.
(7) And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and slew in the city.
(8) And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem?
(9) Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD seeth not.
(10) And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will recompense their way upon their head.
(11) And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.

The marking of Godís people before the death angel, is only a sign of Godís loving protection on his people. The mark, only stating the protection from the things God is fixing to do as far as the killing in a land. Most people I would like to think never experience this, but if you do then the marking is a sign of your protection during the event of death.

This passage if nothing else displays that people called by his name, that did not humble themselves or seek him were under the same death sentence as those of Egypt during the passover of the angel of death because of sin against Israel. God protected his people by a mark around the door post of their house. God is marking the forehead of his people in Jerusalem by the man with the writers inkhorn. The very altar in Jerusalem no longer had the Spirit of God surrounding it. Jerusalem no longer cared about the things of God. Yet God still loved those who sought Him. And He sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem, marking his people in the process as not to be harmed by the ministers of death.

God seals us by the Holy Spirit when we confess Jesus Christ as Lord, yet this is a time of marking that will be for our protection from misery caused by the judgment of God. Scorpions will bite people but death will not come to those being bitten, though they cry for death. Godís people will walk among those people as the very elect of God, testifying of being under the protection of God.

To know the effects of sin will cause destruction in the life of people that sin, is not only for those heathen but even people who are called by Godís name that refuse to repent. The death angel is not the hand of a man, but the hand of angel sent from God. He is not human being but spiritual being with the power to kill those around but those with the mark of God. The marking to come is one to protect Godís people who are already sealed by the Holy Spirit for eternity. The mark because of faith in Christ Jesus. A mark not declared by human hands or marked with the ink of mankind, but the ink of Godís writing pen.

How awful to find the day of destruction is meant even for the church goers that only sat in the pews out of tradition and not out of personal faith in Christ. Yes the church was persecuted only because they dared to preached the Gospel of Jesus. Jesus was persecuted for who He was as the Son of God. Yet the day of no more persecution for the church draws nigh. Instead the persecution of those alienated from the house of God, from faith through Christ Jesus not carrying the mark of faith will be consumed by the fires of hell and the fires of all eternity. Only those marked by the handwriting of the Holy Spirit will be saved from final destruction.

Dear Heavenly Father help our unbelief as we learn to trust you that the marking was for our protection and not eternal destruction. Give us the faith of eternal hope today through Christ Jesus. Seal our hearts and mark the foreheads of your saints. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:Revelation 7:1-3 KJV
(1) And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
(2) And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,
(3) Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
