Where To Pray
5/31/2024

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 6:6-8 KJV

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Praying in the temple on feast day got Hannah Samuel's mother in trouble with Priest Eli thinking her tears were because she was drunk and crying. She told him no she was praying and she neither drunk or a whore. Priest said go eat your prayer been answered.

Prayer is one of the things believers must do to talk to God. Truth is God is worthy to be praised and it is another thing believers do. Where should we pray? Daniel prayed in his room kneeling by an open window. That caused him to be thrown into the lions den. Ezekiel drew inspiration on rocks by a fire burning made from feces. Isaac meditated in open field. Abraham spoke to God at night and during the day. Appearing as fire and talking from sky far above Abraham at night and in person during the day. God visit old men in dreams and visions. He spoke to Solmon. God used a prophet to talk to believers that refused to obey him like King Saul and King Ahab. God use Isaiah to talk to Hezekiah. Jonah he talked to him on a hill. Jesus talked to his disciples alone and in a vision to Apostle John and Paul.

Yet there was no place God did not speak. He spoke at Jesus Baptism and during passover to the greeks with a crowd that came to see Jesus on a feast day.

Where should you pray? Believers are to pray in secret. In a room with doors and windows shut. Upper room picture for sure with eleven disciples. Does it matter where? Jesus prayed in the garden and on the mountainside. It not about where you pray as long as it not for show appearing to be better or humble in appearance but not with the heart. God sees your heart. Sometimes it best in secret, private place or a place you can be alone to talk to God and to express yourself. In deep meditation on his word, praying for others and always seeking him for your needs. Also learning to be silent and listen to God's Holy Spirit.

Learn to pray and how to speak. Learn to be respectful because of who God is. Learn to praise him when alone. The world does not know your silent prayers. God does and will answer you if you will not only listen but watch what he will do without your aid, what he can and will do concerning situations. His will be done in the world we live in. Stand back and give God control of your life.

Dear Heavenly Father You are King of kings. You direct the gentile to send for Peter to hear about Jesus. You answer the prophets, apostles, and the simple believer and the repented man. Yet Lord you hear your humble servant and speak to our hearts things yet to be seen. God give us ears to hear and a voice that ask with respect concerning your will. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
