Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisPsalm 23:1 KJV
1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
John 10:7-18 KJV
7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. David was a shepherd boy. He tended his father sheep. He learned to protected from bears, lions, and the wolves. He would of learn to pick thorns and thistles from their wool and clean their hooves. He would of make sure they were in pasture land with plenty to eat. Away from fire ants and things harmful to their diet. Then he would protect them all through the night which each shepherd in the fields taking a few hours from their sleep. The job of shepherding was not when the enemy made signs they were close by. He made sure the sheep stayed close to natural flowing water to drink and to bath in. Keep them close together to keep them from going astray. He make sure all their wants were meet.
Jesus speaks of God being the great shepherd. We can get lost without knowing Christ relationship to God the Father for he claims to be God here in the fathering since of God. He does several things one being he gathers the sheep that will hear his voice. He heals those that believe that are gathered to him. Yet Jesus speaks of more that will believe who he is and eill come to believe becausr he is the door that they come through. Each of the twelve tribe of Israel were consider to be a gate to God. Jesus preach to all that listened and became the doorway to everlasting life. The disciple would be a shepherd to the church but would never be the Great Shepherd that was Christ position alone. God's Shepherd's and sheperdess would be given a crown that fadeth not away. Our position be kings and queens in God's kingdom. When we converse with God we need to know his role and our position as sons' and daughters' of God throne with Christ position being first.
We maybe a gate or doorway but Jesus is the key to eternal life. When we pray we call God Father and Jesus his son. Jrsus being God's Word yet equal in power and authority.
Dear Heavenly Father help us to know are place as earlier this week we spoke of God bring in authoroty. God the Father and the son being Shepherd and Father, equal in authority and power. Jesus being the Great Shepherd. In Jesus precious name Amen. Continual Scripture Study: 1 Peter 5:1-4 KJV
1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
