Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Samuel 1:7-20 KJV
7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.
8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.
10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.
11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.
13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.
16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.
19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

A woman with virtue but without a child that she desired. There are woman that are content to never have child but for others their hearts mourn for a child to love and to hold. This is National Day of Prayer and it is a day to seek God for our nation. A day to prayer not just for our nation but healing in our nation. Hannah did not just want a child because her heart mourned for one but her husband's other wife gave her hard time about it. Hannah husband loved her and it matter not to him if she had a child for him.

Every year Hannah and her family went to the temple for the yearly feast but this year was different she could eat because of her grief over the need of a child and so she went to the temple to pray. Eli the Priest mistaken her as a woman of belial, probably a harlot and told her to stop her drunkness at the Temple. Hannah told him who she was and why she wept and prayed. Eli told her to go and eat may the Lord grant her request. She left with hope and ate for nourishment. Hannah and her family went and worship at the temple. She went home and she conceive and bore a son named Samuel.

If our nation would pray with the faith Hannah our nation would see great change and healing. Many go to capital on the day of prayer for many reason and it has nothing to do with God. But those that pray pray for nation with sincerity of heart. And if we could combined our nation in prayer with one accord our nation would not only see it healed but would see it triumph over their enemies. Hannah was one woman with a need and yet God answered her request. What does more people asking in prayer do for a nation but watch godly changes come about and our enemy the Devil squashed. Let us bind together praying for the heart of our nation to heal and not be broken in humbleness to our God. Hannah would have more children but she dedicated her first son to God. Samuel grew up to be a great prophet of the Lord.

What can our nation do when God shines in the heart of his people to take away the hate, bigotry and things that hurt the unity of our nation.

Dear Heavenly Father we come to you concerning our nation that you bind the things that break our unity of our nation and destroy those things that weaken and tear us apart. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
