What Shall We Do Then
3/03/2024

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 3:9-18 KJV
9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.
15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
18 And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.

The teachings of John and even Jesus was common sense in aiding people in need. By giving from one's abundance. This is also a way of demonstrating God's love and bearing fruit. The publican(tax collector) asked what should he do and he was not to extract extra taxes. Also to a soldier not to accuse anyone falsely or take a bribe but to be content with one wages.

The things John taught caused people to ask if he was the Christ or not. John said he was unworthy to unlatch the shoes on his feet. Taking or aiding someone with their shoes and prehaps in preparation for washing demonstration of servanthood to another, but it more because John felt unworthy to untie his shoes, yet he baptize him in water. Over in the Gospel of John, Jesus washes disciples feet in a form of servanthood and example to his disciples. Peter wanted him to baptize him but he explained he was cleaned and didnt need a full bath.

The Christ(Jesus) was coming to baptize with fire. He separating the chaff from the wheat. Burning the chaff and using the wheat. The believer has both wheat and chaff in their life. He wants to remove the chaff and use the wheat in your life. Has one learns to love and give from the heart, one is learning to bear fruit of faith by God's Spirit. May God through Christ purging the chaff out of our wheat, we will be fit for his use.

Dear Heavenly Father purge the chaff from your people and may world see your love not just in Christ work on the cross that purges the sins from the believers heart for eternity but by the love of your people to the world. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: John 13:1-15 KJV
1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
