Tongues Of Fire 6/02/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisActs 2:1-12 KJV
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? The startling effects of Christianity, might not seem odd if your raised in the church, but what if you were not? Reading the first twelve verses might not only sound strange but impossibe. Most miracles, signs and wonders is unbelievable to the unbeliever. More the miracles and wonders are study the believer gets a sense of awe while the unbeliever is bewilder by the believer.
Are languages unknown to the disciple. I personal believe two things happen God gave the ability of language but was it unknown to speaker not sure. The noise of the language in one accord brought the crowd. The disciples had traveled by boat to different areas, probably traded with different dialects and even converse with some at the gate of a village because there were three tax collector who one definitely work at the city gate as people from different areas came in. To many languages coming together despite the Hoy Spirit intercession and knowledge intercession it could of caused the problem with the crowd but not each other. God by the Holy Spirit was empowering the disciples in many languages to be able to do what preach in many language. What they spoke to the crowd was the wonderful works of God in more then one language so all the crowd.
If I took four friends on stage an we each sang a song in a different language at the exact same time the words of the song would not sound intelligent but just noise. I hope we four friends would not sound drunk or high. but it would sound confusing to those that came to hear. My husband I home probably sounds chaotic with two movies going, radio and the news. If we are both speaking the noise in the house gets worse.
Just because the disciples were in one accord in many languages did not mean a crowd gathering would of understood. In Daniel 7 it speaks of the ancient of days an out of throne a stream spew forth to many worshippers going about their duties. Now this envisioned came to Daniel from God but speaks clearly the power of God's Spirit to go forth and speak to many people even those without the same language.
When Peter begins to speak to the crowd the crowd heard what their own language as they translated Peter's words. The language pierced the heart like a sword to all that received the word that day that came by God's Spirit. God is visual God flames sat on disciples. The rushing wind added to outside the room confusion no doubt. All said and done no need to know only Hebrew but many languages were preached in that day to the world by the Holy Spirit. It was done for the glory of God that man would be saved by Jesus Christ that believe.
Dear Heavenly Father your word is both spoken and read in many languages, may those that hear not just hear noise but about your marvelous work throughvout the ages. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Daniel 7:9-11 KJV
9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
