Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 3:1-7 KJV
1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.A ruler of the pharisees came by night named Nicodemus. He confessed he knew Jesus was sent from God because of the miracles and the work he did. If we were place in religious leader shoes for a moment, the understanding that Jesus is a teacher sent by God, was stepping out in faith that whoever Jesus was God had a purpose in his coming. No doubt Nicodemus experience answers to prayer and move of God in his own life to be able to receive that Jesus came from God. Yet who Jesus was fully still unclear concerning his Lordship. Nicodemus was in away going against other religious leaders views by just coming and talking to Jesus and that is one reason he came at night. He was not ready to make such declaration publicly is commonly taught and thought.
Jesus begins to talk and teach Nicodemus without him asking a question first. He begins to explain spiritual transformation and that puzzled Nicodemus. One must be born again. Nicodemus asked can a man enter the womb a second time? A discussion of thought from one religious leader to another concerning the rebirth. He was already part of the family of God segregate for God's purpose just by being a Jew religious ruler. His ability to be born again would of seemed unnecessary as a child of Abraham in the since of faith. Why would he need to be born again?
Yet Jesus insisted one had to be born again by water and Spirit. Speaking about perhaps his own baptism. Speaking of the purefication process and anointing by God's Spirit because of faith. Without these ingredients one could not enter the kingdom of God.
Jesus is talking about sanctification process as a believer. A process of purifying before going into the temple for service. Jesus speech would of puzzled Nicodemus because it was explained differently then how he was accustom too.
Two birth one when born and when was is transformed spiritually into faith. We too must be born agaon spiritually by believing God sent his Son.
Dear Heavenly Father in rich in us the need of spiritual transformation by faith that God sent his Son. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: 1 Peter 1:21 KJV
