Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 20:19-23 KJV
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

Ever been in tidewater areas or along the ocean and watch the tide come rolling in. It carries a slight breeze to the evening air. Some might say more of rush of air depending the season. The waves go crashing in. Breaks against the shoreline only bouncing back from the waters edge. The water come whooshing in again to go bouncing back making waves hurl even harder til the rise of water will or wont go any higher. Imagine the heat of trouble and anxiety must of filled the upper room. The evening tide had come rushing to the door as if the very thought of a group of people would storm the door. The feeling of a sunked ship despite some seeing Jesus. No ideal how to cope with the situation or how to go foreward and Jesus passes through the door as if he owned the room.

The evening of the day after the resurrection left enemies outside and fear within and suddenly Jesus strolls right in. As he brings comfort to his disciples of who he is and that he is really alive. He gives them power from on high to face the music of fear beyond the doors of the upper room. Christ commission is disciples "as the Father sent me, I now send you".

The fear of battle felt in the eveningtide of many soldiers who have come and gone. Yet soldiers who prayed before the morning have found God has confounded his enemies and sent them running from what the thought was a much large troop then them fleeing and running for their lives. God soothing his people of what might of been the next day and was not. Gideon found himself in such a battle not one sword needed lifting. Isaiah spoke of such a battle.

Interesting enough God begins to cover the storm at night to feel victory of restful night sleep as God gives victory to his people. The rolling thunder lays ahead but the peace of God flows from Jesus lips to his disciples. They would go to Galilee and return to Jerusalem for Christ ascension on mountain near by and then given the infilling of God's Spirit to testify as Christ had while he walked the earth.

He gave instructions to forgive sin and to retain sin. Sin of judgment and forgivable sin.

Sin like we see at the end of Revelation 21 not forgiven but faces judgment for. Two things clear Christ will equip his people and give instruction.

Dear Heavenly Father, You see us facing the evening tide and yet provide us with comfort, and the power to move forward with the aid of the Holy Spirit. Remind us we are not alone in the battle, that you are with us. This is about spiritual battle of going forth sharing God's word, In Jesus precious name, Amen.(This is about Christ's first commision to each believer).

Continual Scripture Study: Isaiah 17:13-14 KJV
13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.
