A New Song 4/14/2024
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisPsalm 40:1-6 KJV
1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.When you receive Christ did you find yourself with a new song on your lips. When I was young and a new Christian I can remember praising Jesus all day in my heart. In fact there was a melody of songs learned running to and fro through my mind as I played outside. Then one day I wrote a simple song and a teacher with a guitare set it to music. No it wasnt a hit song on the radio but it came from my heart. No clue if the teacher used the song again, but I kept the lyrics for years because of the memories. I do not have it anymore. The new song I sung, one sentence was "Jesus walk with me everyday of my life". I was probably about nine when I wrote it.
David found himself in the pit and mire needing salvation. How much did David understand about Christ coming will remain unclear but many things he writes into song spoke of Christ death and resurrection. He understood the grave or pit maybe more of a reference spiritural despair. He felt with a need to be pulled out or rescued from his spiritual despair. God brought him from the miry pit and clay mud, God placed him on the rock of solid ground. With his own spiritual resurrection he found in his heart a melody. The solid rock being God's word and promises. His hope being in the God he serves.
David new not the cross of Christ but his Lord's rescue. David carried his own cross as a shepherd boy to when he became king and then to his own death. David cross reflection of his faith and often God's rescue putting a song or new melody in his heart.
A warrior king in need of his Savior, the foundation of God's word in his heart. The battle won because he relied on God to take him through the valley and back to the mountain top in victory and to be overcomer. God loved the praise of the heart more then burnt offerings or sacrifice.
In Revelation 5:9 says "thou art worthy to open the book and seals thereof", speaking of Christ in this passage. In this passage it speaks of Christ suffering. They sung a new song saying thou art worthy".
No matter the road in life we find ourselves in as a believer we can take our spiritual despair and find hope in Jesus. In the Old Testament David found hope in God's word and coming Messiah. Jesus is the word that became flesh(John 1:1-14).
Today allow Jesus to write a new song in your heart. Allow him to take you from the pit and transform you to a person tbat adores Christ in worship and in song. David life was not easy but his life was a life of spieitual battles and he found God always there for him. His songs were created to glorify God but also they demonstrate humanity and choice David made that were for the Lord and the results of the choice of sin.
Dear Heavenly Father give us melody of praise in our hearts. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Revelation 5:9-10 KJV
9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
