Looking After Christ 9/26/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisHebrews 8:1-13 KJV
1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. Why is the book of Leviticus still important as a Christian. Prehaps if nothing else to understand the sacrificial customs both gift and sin offerings made unto the Lord by the laws given to the Priesthood that help them ruled in leadership in the wilderness until the time of Christ.
For the believers of the new covenant there no other purpose beyond historical and still custom of some of the Jewish in the world, today. Most customs today are given with tithe and offerings as in custom of Abraham.
Leviticus is a book worth taking time to read to help in understanding the repentant process of not speaking about sin but making atonement through sacrifices for sin. Whether it be bull, goat(kid) or female lamb(chapter 4 of Leviticus)and pigeon or two turtle doves for burnt offering in Leviticus 5, it still was a matter of the heart and recognize need of change in one's life.
Today none of these sacrifices are important to faith in Christ Jesus. Jesus paid the price for sin through death on the cross. Then Jesus arose and then ascended into heaven, giving the believer the gift of the Holy Spirit, who write the laws on the believers heart. Today we turn away from sins hunbling asking for forgiveness and sacrifice our life to Christ service no matter what we find ourselves doing in this world.
Laws of sacrifice are strict but serve a purpose of acknowledging sin, paying a sin debt like we would in a court action. Purpose to make people face the music of the cost of their actions without always facing the punishment of death. Yet in society were laws are changed and created by individuals the only guilt or change often seen is only by those that agree with the laws.
Obedience to the law can be like everytime you pass a bubble gum machine you pay your quarter, nickle or dime and what your suppose to get is a sweet life but instead you get a sour ball because someone lives by another set of rules or changed the laws.
The laws of God did not change only the bubble gum machine with gum that has a better and sweet flavor because there is now only one sacrifice for sin which is Christ Jesus. Who is my Lord. And I hope and pray is your Lord too.
Read Leviticus will help you understand how serious our sin is to God and the final cost of sin being his precious Son Jesus. Looking at Leviticus from this side of the cross.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for one time atonement for our sins through Jesus. May we take our tramsgression serious enough that we change because of the cross. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Leviticus 4:1-4 KJV
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them:
3 If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin offering.
4 And he shall bring the bullock unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD; and shall lay his hand upon the bullock's head, and kill the bullock before the LORD.
