Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Exodus 20:12-17 KJV
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Several things as human beings we either learn by Bible or by eye for eye and a tooth for a tooth method. Meaning what we learn from childhood trial and error from both our parents and the world the responsibility of being a good neighbor and family member. We good to obey our parents because if we did not we get a scolding, whipping or grounding depending on the generation. When God told children to obey their parents was he talking about adults too, only adults that were under their care and support, otherwise they were to obey God alone. Parents are not always right.

It is hard to imagine anything being more important then a parents authority in a child's life. With child abuse in our land it better to teach a child to obey parents, govenment, and to obey God most of all. Parents in the New Testament are told not to bring their child to wrath, but to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord(Ephesians 6:4). Who are the commandments of God written for? The are written for God-fearing people. People that are obeying God's law. God's laws to help with common practice for polite godly society that love God. Yet the laws to love others are for all society. God knows not everyone going to worship and honor him. Everyone desires a society of less social hurt. Yet by not killing each other, not committing adultery, not stealing, bearing false witness, and not coveting your neighbors wife or any of his possessions then you become a person who has respect for his neighbor like one should have first for oneself and others in hope others have it for you.

God desires us to have godly compassion for one another. People in other societies not of God learn this through eye for eye and a tooth for a tooth, through fear of those with power over them. It is often imitational love. It's a love until food runs out, the shelter breaks down and every person for themselves. The type of love Jesus taught when speaking about the good Samaritan of who is our neighbor/homey? Is the one that showed compassion for his neighbor, who was injured in the Gospel of Luke 10, while religious leaders passed by uncaring, it was the Samaritan.

God's compassion is for world that why he sent his only Son to die for all of mankind's sins. Christ came to remove sin and all sin to come. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory(holiness) of God. No one is justified by works only the grace/love of God. Receive forgiveness of sin by asking Jesus into your heart, learn to follow after him by the work of the Holy Spirit. Need to know more click the how to be saved button for more help and there is a prayer you can receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, as with other scripture to help you receive God's salvation through Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to submit to your ways and will for our life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Ephesians 6:4 KJV
4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
