Genesis 4:8-9 KJV
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?

The first crime noted on scripture after the fall would be murder. The first murder would set the stage of what the cost of sin was. It was not just the sin of forbidden fruit that got one in trouble with God, but removing those who God had respect for. First sin only got one kicked out of heaven, the second sin got man kicked out of God's presence. As time past wickness and evil was running the earth and God would send a flood to destroy. For a time wickness still flourished but only small territories like Sodom and Gomorrah would be destroyed. One of Jacob's daughter would be raped. Her brother's would kill even the village. Man following in God's sense of justice in man's thinking. The need of God's laws need especially protecting innocent bystanders.

The first crimes began to define both man's judgment and definitely God's judgment. Curriculum of crime goes through out scripture but began in Genesis. It began with the original sin and continued. Man sense of right and wrong effected by his and her desire. Desire of reaching God by one's own means or corporate effort of building the tower of Babel would not work either.

Despite criminal agenda man will discover God's grace, righteousness by faith and hope. Man would learn the value of God's promise, justice, and protection from even because of their own sin or mistrust. World population would be made of idolaters, people of faith, and criminal activity that continues on today despite what good society you might live in.

The curriculum of being one brother's keeper effect all societies and not just close relatives over time. Blame Cain for the third law of caring for another on his desire and act of murder. First two laws love/reverence for God and the second obeying God's word. First two laws established in paradise and the third on earth.

This beginning of what we learn by simple reading. One can can get mixed up in a lot of doctrines, but to simply read and think/meditate on his word is where the journey of knowing God for oneself begins. It is going beyond trusting another person's word but relying on God's word to teach you by his Spirit.
