Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJames 1:1 KJV
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
James 2:1 KJV
1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. James is the son Alphaeus who wrote the book of James. He was one of the original disciples and even said to have traveled with Paul. The other James was beheaded. Both the book of Hebrewa and James is written for the twelve tribes of Israel that were saved as will as the unsaved. Many question concerning laws and application of the laws that had no bearing beyond spiritual and outward application of it. Why would the laws been important, because the law of God writen by the Holy Spirit on the heart(Hebrews 10). Jews by tradition lived in stricted obedience to the laws. Though some were not as strict they rested there faith in the law. The laws being how they structure there life. James desire to explain faith in chapter two aa it relates to before the writen laws does so with the faith of Abraham and the law of circumcision or orignal faith. Law of love being greater.
Why would understanding of the law and the value of it be important to spiritual truth like the sacrificial lawa in Hebrews and mention concerning righteous living in James? Simply there were cases like Timothy whose mother was a Jew and Father a greek. Things concerning Jewish faith that are taught to men by men and woman to woman. It would based on what instruction Timothy's mother who was also a Christian by faith had knowledge of her heritage. Explaining faith itself was greater then the blood sacrificial laws. John 3:16 before the cross that whosoever belief had eternal life would not perish. Devil's eternal life is where, in hell. Where is your eternity is based on belief first. Works could not ever save man, but blood sacrifice yearly for the nation was performed and done often for the individual as needed. When Hebrews says there is no remission for sin Hebrews 9:22, the need for sacrifice is no more because Christ paid the price for sin for the people of faith. The breaking down of spiritual understanding of the sacrifial laws concerning how Christ did away with those laws and became the sacrifice for sin. Hope was restored through the resurrection. The things James is writing about in James is how we as a people of faith should be toward one another. To pray for one another. This would be important to new converts.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the rich heritage of your first people the Jews and second the work Christ did through cross and resurrection. Thank for leaders willing to explain like James on what Christian faith and living is about. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Acts 16:1-3 KJV
1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.Matthew 10:1-3 KJV
1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
