1 Kings 1:49-53 KJV 49 And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way. 50 And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar. 51 And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword. 52 And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die. 53 So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.

Many choices in life when one realizes the power belongs to another. King David had many sons. Bathesheba given birth to second son after the death of the first. Solomon was David choice to be King. David other son named Adonijah thought he be king. He came to his father's dinner party with friends, his father was to announce Adonijah kingship so he thought. Before his friend's and others King David said Solomon would rule after his death. Adonijah went to altar to die. He knew his one attempt to take control could cost him life. He was will sacrifice himself before Solomon instead of him killing him for act of treason. Solomon accepts his willingness to sacrifice himself for the throne and tells him he prove to be worthy he will not die.
Would you run away if found guilty of trying to take power from someone else and you were not the one in power to take the authority. Would you fight or try to kill yourself. The man that thought he would get the promotion and told all he new finds out he did not get it. He needed tge raise. He jumps from the 44th floor instead of just telling them he lost. He could not handle the embrassement.
Solomon publicly showed his brother not only mercy but love. Most business people shake disappointment off. They did not get so high up a ladder not to have another come back. Adonijah did not have a problem of being servant to his brother, he deal with his actions as face the coinsequences for his actions.
It takes a real man or woman to face the music. Takes humility to realize one is not in control. When we bow to God we understand that type of humility that it by his power we find his grace to stand and know the power of forgiveness.
It hurts to loose a family member because they loose power or never gain power they thought was due them and take their life. Yet our job as friend or family to be forgivers and show mercy, as God shows us through his son.
1st and 2nd Kings has many great kings recorded in it. Ist and 2nd Chronicles tells more of stories of the kings. Many kings some good and some evil and some it would of been better if they had not been king. Israel would become a divided kingdom. Two sets of Kings for Israel one for Northern and some for the Southern Kingdom. Some of the prophets stories are told aa well.
Dear Heavenly Father grant the mercy and love we need for others because of the mercy you show through the cross and resurrection of your son Jesus because of your grace for us. In Jesua precious name, Amen.
