Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Judges 13:1-25 KJV
1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.
2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.
3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:
5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:
7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.
8 Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.
9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.
10 And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.
11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.
12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?
13 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.
14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.
15 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.
16 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.
17 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?
18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?
19 So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.
20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.
21 But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.
22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.
23 But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.
25 And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

Samson would bring deliverance for his people. Samson when Samson was a young man most would consider him a little rebellious in living by the standards of God. I ask how many teenagers and young adults pay for their actions of young adulthood that many might say they were sowing a few wild oats. Our relationship to God maybe in a valley that many wonder are we saved. Our life maybe in rebellious attitude that begans our destructive life style.

In the beginning of Samson preconception God spoke first to his mother and then his father. God spoke about this child the would have, declaring him a deliver of his people. They were given instructions how to raise their child. Instruction becaused the child was to be a Nazarite all of his life. Parents promised to raise him right.

Just because you raise your child right does not mean his life be perfect. Samson would become a man of war, and a man of valor to Israel. His sin of living and partying around the enemy would be his downfall and he would loose his strength when the enemy cut his hair. He loose his sight by the enemy. Blind and injured tether like and animal he would one day lead to a place where through faith in God would purified his soul and with his hair grown back giving him his strength, he take his arms wrap them around the columns inside the temple where the Philistines made fun of him and his God pulling the temple down. For God, he killed the people that had mocked his God and him as well

Now to get the whole story of Samson's life you have to continue reading a few chapters. However would you consider him your hero? Many men of war are no different in life style of Solomon. Yet they are called to be heroes. His death is one of requesring God's mercy with a purpose. Today it be consider act of terror by the enemy. From Israel side he a died hero by the will of God

By God's call on Samson's life as a deliver with one act he defeated the enemy near his village. This was only the Philistines of his area. He request God not to let him live after he tore down the temple. Was it suicide or did God show him mercy.

These enemies of God were mockers of faith of the living God. A Nazarite one called to live out their days until God fullfills his will in their life. John the Baptist was a type of Nazarite. He would be the fore runner of Christ. Christ would be the true deliver, a deliverer of all our sins.

What can learn until God's will is complete in our life we will be learning right and wrong way to handle life situations. Samson's ways were of war not of peace. Men will get and woman will struggle with the type of war hero Samson was. His retaliation necessary for his own people survival.

The ways of Christ is much more fruitful but the accomplishment of God's will on the enemy fulfilled. There times God uses peace and other times war to protect his people. If we study the war right now between Ukraine and Russia it is a battle to fight against a dictatorship and to secure the borders of Ukaine. Russia is a much larger nation. Only since the mid 80's had peace talks between Russia and America been good because of threat of nuclear violence. Sending of money to Ukraine did not make it through the congress. Is the cold war over? Or is our nation still hoping to keep peace standing on the fence rail becoming a human target of both countries. I sometimes wonder what our own nation is doing. Are we only spectators to someone's freedom fight that can end badly despite it being a battle of the heart for Urkaine and part of the cold war for Russia.

We live in a time of no peace but when peace and safety in our own land is coming with talks of removal human rights and our own nation becoming more like the book 1984 and Fahrenheit 457. We must question our own freedom did Russia win the cold war in the USA with big brother. Yet our nation is consider one of the best.

In times like these peace or war our world needs the deliver Jesus to return. For God to deliver his people. Yet it will be in God's timing.

Dear Heavenly Father may your Son come when it time by you watch. May he come and take his people home and keep them safe until the time of deliverance. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Judges 16:28-31 KJV
28 And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
29 And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.
30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.
31 Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
