Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Psalm 25:1-22 KJV
1 A Psalm of David. Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.
3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.
4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.
5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
6 Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD.
8 Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.
9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
11 For thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.
12 What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.
13 His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.
14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
15 Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.
16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.
17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.
18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.
19 Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.
20 O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.
21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.
22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

Memorial Day a day of remember the brave men and women that serve our country. A day of rememberance to know that these people were willing die for our freedom in America and freedom of people in foreign lands. They were recruited usually out of their prime of babyhood of adulthood, never knowing what life was about beyond what was taught at home and in the streets. One year My husband and I ate in a resturaunt where several troop of soldiers enter the establishment as well to eat. As I looked at their faces, I realized how young they were compared to me. I was probably near forty at the time in age. We had watch children grow up but until we seen these young people in uniform we fail to see the reality of these "babies who are trained to be women and men, strong fighting military people", the reality of how young they are when they are recruited and go off to war. They go hoping for victory to win and others come home in body bags ready for the grave with a flag draped over the bodies.

None of us grasp the reality of what we sending these young people to do, and yet they had dreams beyond the military and desires to be parents, strong people of american workforce and they come home injured and maimed. Yet in truth dead or alive they are branded a hero with metals of valor, and strips of degree. They come home to the grave and home to family who know not what they been through. The memories of war lasting for decades. Yet our country is blessed by their service.

As King David speaks of first his trust in God and ask that God not allow his enemies to triumph over him in the battle field. David doubt trust in God going into the battle field and trenches of battle. I do not doubt there are many thoughts of military as they lay in fox holes and trenches to prepare for battle, that a silent prayer goes out to their Heavenly Father. That they honor God with his greatness and mercy, repenting of any trangression that is causing a blockage between them and God and then the plea for mercy from God in the battle field with bullets flying, and ambush that await them.

Soldiers call to recognize and to honor God. They stand for their nation but their heart serves the Lord in all things they do. Honor and praise is given to God by the believers of faith no matter how they standing in the battle. Some blinded by their nations own deceptions of the laws and hopes of their nations leaders. Yet they go to battle and some to say good bye and others to learn their own history when they standing on the shores of peace once more.

Believers in Christ we are like the soldiers in battle field we go praying that God go before us in the battles of life, That our walk will not be tarnished. That God's shield of protection as we face that devils of this world, we face those without Christ, without hope. That they march on in the trenches of our faith, some to be remembered and yet not forgotten that served a living Savior, who still in the world today. Can we honor God in the field of service to our God.

Military today is a day we recognize you but we must stop for a moment to honor the General of the earth Jesus Christ, who leads us into victory of our faith. Military that serve our country we do not forget you. That why the flag on the home page was raised up. Some thought it was for Bible school and it is that too. But I promised to keep that flag there til all our brave men and women were home. I honor God first, but appreciate your service and know some will never come home. And some will come home to the grave and their memory will not be forgotten. Our military even at home affect our lives as they surround us even in our city streets. To day is National Memorial Day, let us not forget those who sacrifice in the line of battle, doing what their commander and chief tells them to do. Let us not forget they had hopes and dreams like all Americans do. Let us not forget the living God who welcomes those that are saved home early to be with him. God must need them where he is in heaven for a purpose too. We understand not, but we know that God knows why they are called home early.

After 17 years on writing a memorial day service message, I do not feel this one is as well done. I think to myself why. because though I am proud of my nation, I seen more fallacy of my nation in recent days. These men and women are fighting for us and yet are we keeping our constitution intact here at home for them to come back to a place they remember of freedom? I sometimes wonder if we truly all are in agreement of freedom and our laws. I know our nation being under God is not all beleivers of God or Christ Jesus. Though decision of faith is individual the laws of our land to obey is a called of every American. If our leaders do not obey the laws then the laws have no value, if they not held to the standard of every American also has to obey despite class or education we fail to be people of our nation. Let us not forget why our nation laws are important to every believer and to every non believer, it the truce in the opposition of peace in our land.

Dear Heavenly Father this memorial day let us remember the brave men and women that serve in our country. Let it us pray for peace and to seek peace with our neighbors and not war. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 2 Samuel 19:2 KJV
2 And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son.
